A friend of mine had RNY surgery (4/11/01) the day before mine and she is on a CLEAR liquid diet until May 1. Uhg, that means broths, popcicles, and juice is about all she can have. I can't even imagine clear liquids for three weeks!!! I think that if people are to make totally unbiased decisions, it is good to really see firsthand the amount, frequency and types of food eaten by pre-ops of both surgeries. Of course, there may be many other reasons why someone would chose an RNY over a DS (other than more 'normal' post-op eating lifestyle -- I've actually heard this considered a 'negative' by some considering RNY... HUH???????), but I think that really seeing things in black and white and by people with experience can help a pre-op see exactly what lifestyle he/she may have long term. Of course, people's experiences will vary, too. This is another reason why actual experiences and the wide spectrum may help alleviate fears and/or confirm someone's decision. Also, the facts will be coming from post-ops themselves, not only 'heresay' or statistics. all the best, teresa lap DS with gallbladder removal Dr. Gagner/DR. Quinn assisting/Mt.
