Guest guest
Once off the antibiotic how long does it take to get the gut back in good shape, does it take long being on scd?-- JH Celiac SprueSCD- 4+ years " Strength does not come from winning Your struggles develop your strength. Guest guest
Actually I kind of wanted to know about this too. I went searching through messages but couldn't seem to find the information I needed (perhaps I was using the wrong key words). I'm going to visit an urgent care place at lunch today because I woke up with the beginnings of what feels like a UTI. I know how bad it can get (and quickly) so I feel like I need to see someone asap. They've always given me antibiotics in the past to help clear everything up but it seems like people have mentioned that antibiotics are messing things up in their guts. What do you do to combat it? Yogurt of any kind is not an option for me (I take the SCDophilis every day to supplement my inability to eat it). Should I increase the amount I'm taking or go back to the starter diet for a few days? Suggestions definitely appreciated!! Guest guest
I am drinking water and I had cranberry juice this morning. Unfortunately the pain got worse. Doc suggested it might be kidney stones. They put me on an antibiotic anyway and something to help with the UTI sypmtoms (if that's what it is). Whatever it is got much worse and I actually started crying at work. Used the bathroom and I now feel better. By that I mean that I feel like I did around 11 today when the symptoms really bothered me but weren't too bad. I'm a little nervous about driving home because I'm worried the symptoms will just get worse again while driving. ::sighs:: It's a really frustrating day today . I'm not sure if I feel better because the meds kicked in (1 hr 45 mins after taking it) or because I did actually pass some of the stones. In any case...what do you guys think? Should I up my SCDophilis? Guest guest
Yes, if you're taking antibiotics then you need to increase your acidophilus. It helps to time the dose of acidophilus and take it 2 to 3 hours following your antibiotics, and, if possible, 2 hours before your next antibiotic dose. This gives the acidophilus some time to populate. You should stay on the increased dosage of probiotics for several weeks following the end of your antibiotics. You might also need to go to soft, easy-to-digest foods for a while as well. You can expect your digestion to be intolerant while you're taking the antibiotics, and for weeks afterwards. Kim M.
