Guest guest
My feeling, based on my experiences and the research I've done, is that you have to deal with a candida overgrowth at the same time as you work towards healing your intestinal walls. Restoring our gut ecology is critical to healing, which means dealing with a candida overgrowth, or overgrowth of other types of microorganisms. However, being on SCD will help with a candida overgrowth, to some degree, as starches from complex carbs are eliminated. Some of us have had to fine-tune our SCD food choices in order to eliminate high levels of candida more quickly, to cut back on the allowable high-carbs and fruits for a while. Digestive disorders and candida overgrowth go hand in hand, I'm afraid. Both aspects of a disturbed gut ecology. So we have to deal with both. Kim M. Guest guest
Hi Alyssa.. I'm learning more and more I need to change some of the language I use when it comes to the term Candida. It far too much like this uber umbrella categorization that everything gets thrown into. Also, the SCD is a great diet for pesky Candida issues but modifications need to be made depending on individual case by case basis and severity. Again, this is highly individual! Some people need to just limit certain food items for a period of time like Banana, honey, nuts and very sweet fruits. Others have to take it further than this.. Some need to go as far as using anti fungals and prescription drugs if one can tolerate it. It is safe to say most people coming into this diet have gut dysbiosis. I have learned from Dr Natasha McBride's work and how she structured the GAPS intro diet- is that she addresses Candida modifications from the get go and also wants people to be dairy free the first six months. Granted, NCM is coming more from the Neuro perspective of things- which in some cases ASD kids have debilitating Colitis type issues. But, she advocates usage of certain ingredients or food items from the start that for me is like a question mark (she advocates this in general although GAPS is very supportive of leaving ingredients out if it does not agree with the person etc) Like Elaine it is hard as the books (even BTVC) like over generalize to reach a wide population. But the perspective changes on a case by case basis. According to my general perception over time.. We on SCD for severe gut issues are very limited food wise from the get go.. any many of us have severe food intolerances to begin with. I think- and Marilyn or anyone can correct me if I am wrong.. is that Elaine didn't want to limit us even more than our current debilitation and the life changing process the SCD already is. So she gave us this guideline and was like " here.. go swim " LOL. Many have dysbiosis but it like almost self corrects on the full SCD but others need to address it more aggressively. I personally think if you have a Candida issue it is best to address it from the get go. I think it will shorten the agony really. My general observation is that people who have pesky Candida from teh begining use certain food items as a crutch and it feeds candida.. like honey, apple cider, bananas, nuts etc. Lord knows I did. I think this is what LDN helps with. Strengthening the immune system so the gut has the resources to straighten out the dysbiosis more quickly through the body's innate self healing abilities. > I personally think if you have a Candida issue it is best to address > it from the get go. I totally agree LDN is rocking about this.. really helps people get over this hump and for some dysbiosis is so perky, insidious and challenging.. that is if LDN works for your makeup etc and I am very happy to see so many SCD'ers having terrific results. Guest guest
I wasn't seeing the results that I wanted until I started to address Candida. I can't take any strong anti-fungals since I am nursing. However, I do take two no-fenol enzymes on an empty stomach every night. These are great at fighting yeast and have stepped up my healing tremendously. I do not have any honey though I do eat two bananas a day with yogurt. My intake of fruit is pretty low. - SCD 9 months celiac, parasites > > Can you have candida overgrowth and heal at the same time? Guest guest
Hi , Could you tell me what you mean by " no-fenol enzymes " . Is that what I look for in the health food store or can it be called something else? Thanks much, GERDS and chronic C. Guest guest
Mara-(or others on the board) What are the sources for the LDN dose of 4.5 mg? I would like to discuss this with my doc, but it would be nice to give some evidence- papers, studies, articles, that have settled on this dose as the best one for guts. Thanks, PJ > > > Many have dysbiosis but it like almost self corrects on the full > > SCD but others need to address it more aggressively. > > I think this is what LDN helps with.
