Hi.. Ive been denied services with UHC on final appeal because they

say that they dont pay for ds on the basis that its experimental.

Please, any of you who have had approval thru UHC, please send me a

copy of your approval letter? They cant take approval away and I

really need it. they are not doing the right thing by me and I would

really appreciate your help.. thanks

I would apprecite this info also. My paperwork will be going to UHC

shortly and I would rather be prepared for a fight than not be

prepared.

I'm sorry to hear that they have denied you. I have UHC Options PPO

and they approved me in less than 24 hours. However, I never did

receive an approval letter from them. They just called me to tell me

that I had been approved and what I should expect from the surgery

and to let me know that I could have a nurse come to my home to take

care of me for after care should I need it. I haven't heard of UHC

denying the DS on the basis of it being experimental before. When you

appeal, I would be sure to use the Hess Report that can be found on

www.duodenalswitch.com

Hi Sue,

I also have United Health Care PPO options and was approved EXACTLY as Dorian said. I was approved in less than 24 hours also, and they called me to tell me. Then they went on to say that if I needed nursing care at home afterwards, that I was covered for that as well.

I can't understand why they told you it was "experimental." Is there an exclusion that you are maybe not aware of in your particular policy? That's the only thing that I can think of.

I was approved with UHC, Select Plus, POS 18 months ago Oct '99. I

was approved over the phone. They don't send letters out with an

approval, only denial but you can print this out as a reference.

They've also approved my tummy tuck & breast reduction set for July

12. I do know some UHC policies have an exclusion, it just depends

on the specific policy you bought. Good luck to you..

I would definitely fight this. It seems as though they have mixed feelings about whether some are requesting the wls for health or cosmetic reasons. Being that wls Are becoming more and more common,it's seems like they are trying to crack down by attempting to weed some out.As if to test you to see if you really feel it is necessary. Remember, anything worth having,often doesnot come easy.FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! GoodLuck!
