Guest guest
--I bet youre tired because you're not getting enough nutrition, ie protein. One suggestion might be is there are some unflavored proteins out there. One is called " 100% Any Whey Prot (Unflav) " made by Optimum Nutrition. It can be mixed with other foods or in something like crystal lite. Or, just use the Pro Complex (IMHO it is the best of the protein drinks) and find some sugar free flavoring or flavored extract and add a little to help the flavor. Or, if you go to support groups, maybe you can ask them to bring samples of their proteins. Some health food stores sell protein samples. I hope you can find something that you can tolerate. However, as a last suggestion, for me, I consider my protein as part of my " medicine " , and I just drink it down because my body needs it. Good luck on finding a good protein. --Sandi > I haven't been on the site for a while...I was previously pretty much a lurker trying to get as much info as possible before my surgery. I finally had my surgery 2 weeks ago and everything went great. My question is that I am having a hard time getting the protein required in and was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I don't like the pro complex, the pure protein or the isopure very much and not sure what else is out there. I'm tired of spending money on things that taste gross. I also feel a lot more tired than I did last week, > is this normal? > > Thanks, > > post op > Dr. Legha Kaiser SSF

Guest guest
, my second week I felt much more tired than the first. I think that is partly because during th efirst week, I actully permitted myself to sleep more? Or maybe because I was taking some of that pain med stuff. Starting the end of the first week I felt like I had "relapsed" into fatigue. I started in with protein after my 2 week appt...and as I just osted, I was able to walk 3 miles. I am still getting my protein from fish and yoghurt. Although, yesterday on the way to San Obispo. we stopped at San Bautista for dinner. Steve wanted Mexican...so he ordered a plate, and I had some of the chile relleno (cheese/egg/mild green chiles) and he took a little bit of the meat off of his taco for me. It was plenty. Today, at the walk...our group was barbequeing shrimp to sell...so I had two (they were little), and I feel very good. ALso, I bought some wild salmon, and cut it into 2 oz portions, and froze them in separate little baggies. I've been cooking those. Very good. So, that healthy protein is helping me a lot. I do feel a little pull in my abs every once in a while. A tugging feeling...like I've strained something (anyone else feel that way)...and I still get tired...but I expect that to last for a while. Guest guest
First of all, yes it is perfectly normal to feel tired...you just had major surgery and your body is realizing you changed it around a little. As for your shakes, do you put anything in them?? If not go to vitalady.com and try some samples of the sugar free syrups or go to the low carb stores ..like Cactus(?) they sell them there. I do the Pro Complex vanilla and then add flavors like coconut, caramel, macadamia nut etc. Huggles > I haven't been on the site for a while...I was previously pretty much > a lurker trying to get as much info as possible before my surgery. Guest guest
Sandi, Thanks for the advice, I am going to try the unflavored kind and see how I do with that. It's hard to believe that 1 week you can feel on a total high and have such an adrenaline rush and the next week feel so tired and fatigued. I bought a different flavor of isopure today and it taste a little better, maybe that will work for me too. Thanks again, > > I haven't been on the site for a while...I was previously pretty > much a lurker trying to get as much info as possible before my > surgery. Guest guest
Robynn, How long ago was your surgery? I feel feel very lucky to know about this site and get feedback from people who have gone through the same thing. It's so strange to me not to know what feels normal and what doesn't. I was hoping the tired thing was normal and not just me. I'm sure the protein has a lot to do with it, but now I will take some of the groups advice and try a few out. Thanks for the response. > > I haven't been on the site for a while...I was previously pretty > much a lurker trying to get as much info as possible before my > surgery. Guest guest
, I have put skim milk or 1/2 a banana in the vanilla pro complex and it still makes me gag. I wasn't aware until I got the responses that I could add sugar free syrups to make them taste better. This is why I like this site so much....learn a lot of new things. I have only stuck to what the bariatrics people told me to do. Today was the first day that I tried 1 egg, couldn't even get the whole egg down, what a strange feeling. As for feeling tired, my husband tells me the same thing you did, but I have a hard time listening because I felt so great the first week and thought I did someting wrong to feel so tired and weak. Thanks for your advice, > > I haven't been on the site for a while...I was previously pretty > much > > a lurker trying to get as much info as possible before my surgery. Guest guest
I had my surgery on June 8th, just two and a half weeks ago. So TRUST ME, I know what you are going through right now!!! I went onto Phase III on Monday. The addition of protein in the third phase has helped a lot..but I'm still recovering, and still having ebbs and flows of energy. I can be the Energizer Bunny one minute, and in a near coma the next. It will equal out in time. Robynnmybrwneyes2005 wrote: Robynn,How long ago was your surgery?
I feel feel very lucky to know about this site and get feedback from people who have gone through the same thing. It's so strange to me not to know what feels normal and what doesn't. I was hoping the tired thing was normal and not just me. I'm sure the protein has a lot to do with it, but now I will take some of the groups advice and try a few out. Thanks for the response.> > I haven't been on the site for a while...I was previously pretty > much a lurker trying to get as much info as possible before my > surgery. Guest guest
I started with ProComplex, but like you had to doctor it up with so much stuff with so much sugar in it (look up the stats on milk or banana) that I figure any benefit was being negated by the sugar. Fortunately I have found other protein drinks I like MUCH better! mybrwneyes2005 wrote: >I have put skim milk or 1/2 a banana in the vanilla pro complex and >it still makes me gag. > > -- Eleanor Oster eleanor@... Guest guest
WOW! You had your surgery the day before me. Were you at Kaiser S. San Francisco? If so, who was your surgeon? what kinds of food are you eating at this point? I am still doing the liquid thing and added in cottage cheese. I tried scrambled egg, took about 4 spoons and got the gag feeling. It's great to have someone be so close to my date of surgery. how much have you lost so far? Do ou know the average loss for this amount of time? I know what you mean with feeling really good and then slowing down in the energy, it's a strange thing for me to want to take naps. Again, thanks for all your advice....Have a great rest of the weekend. > > > I haven't been on the site for a while...I was previously pretty > > much a lurker trying to get as much info as possible before my > > surgery.
