Guest guest
Hi. I used to work for Medic Alert in Calif. so I feel the obligation to help answer this. I think it's a great idea because I used to be one of the people answering that 24-hr. emergency line & the info. I gave the dr's/hospitals/police was very helpful on more than one occasion. First of all, there are several " medical bracelet " companies out there with similar names, but only one that has a 24-hr. telephone emergency number where dr's can get other info. that's not on your bracelet. They keep other info. in their database such as your primary & secondary care physicain, a couple of person's to contact in an emergency, and medical info. such as allergies, medications you may take & any other medical conditions. Every member does get a card to carry in their wallet, but it is my understanding that in some states, it is illegal to look in a person's wallet. I don't know if that's true now, but it was when I was working there. Besides, if I found someone in an emergency situation & saw a Medic Alert bracelet/necklace on them, I would call the number. I don't think I'd go through their purse or wallet. As for info. to put on your emblem...they may have some suggestions, or I think " Bariatric surgery " , Bariatric surgery patient " or something like that would be fine. Then you can put more details in the wallet card section, such as type of surgery, etc. For more information on the MedicAlert® service, call or visit its website at www.medicalert.org. I would highly recommend using this company over any other. I do not believe anyone else can offer you the emergency service that they can. Hope this helps. In the past, there have been other posts about " medical alert " bracelets & the like. I have never posted to the list about them because I didn't want to offend anyone, as I know some of you have this as a business. I felt I had to post to the list this time & I hope that I haven't offended anyone. If I have, please accept my apologies.
