Guest guest
Oh, Joe! You are so wise! I am 2 months post-op and I am delighted to say that I never regretted this surgery. That is not to say that at 3 or 4 weeks post-op I wasn't wanting reassurance that I would be feel like my old self soon! One thing that helped me stay positive and focused was this list. I read for a year as a pre-op and saw the cycle of " excitement of approval - fear of upcoming surgery date - some regrets as an immediate post-op - excitement of new life " . I decided to skip the regret stage since it was within my control to do so. Of course I had no serious complications and that helps! I am experiencing dumping now, but hopefully that will pass. Even if it doesn't, I will not regret this surgery. I cannot believe that I have lost 43.5 pounds in two months. I am getting around so much easier. Life is a pleasure! My husband and I are having a townhouse built (we hate yardwork) and we are selling our home. At the end of last year I was excited about the new house, but I was freaking out about how I would ever get the energy to get our current house ready to sell. I was tired just walking up the stairs! Well, our home sold last week after being on the market for two days and we got $3,000 OVER our asking price. We were told that our home is immaculate (and beautiful) and that is what helped it sell so quickly. I could never have gotten it in the state it is without this surgery. I was washing walls and painting trim and without much effort. Don't get me wrong - it was tiring - but I physically could not have done it with an additional 43.5 pounds on me. Thank God for this surgery and for those who lead me to this list to discover the wonders of the DS. in IL Dr. Lap DS 2/28/01 -43.5 pounds

I think I was on a post-morphine HIGH because I felt absolutely GREAT the first three weeks! It was like I had a new body --- I didn't feel down or depressed or even tired and had to make myself take naps! LOL Then, at four weeks I experienced my first plateau and got quite exhausted easily. That lasted for about 1 1/2 weeks and I've been pretty much back to normal ever since. I have about 3-5 great 'on' active days and then a day or two of just feeling 'blah' and have a lack of energy (I'm three months plus post-op now). I actually went off my Paxil (with my PCP's guidance and knowledge) and haven't really had any anxiety or signs of depression. Just get tired sometimes when I've been on the go all day, every day! Of course, not experiencing any complications certainly had something to do with my post-op outlook and feeling so fab. Sometimes I feel as if I never had the surgery --- my body has just adjusted to the new arrangement so well. I am hoping it continues like this, God willing!
