Hi

I would use cornstarch. No smell and usually wont aggravate any already rash area, in fact it will help dry it up....

Caryl

I managed to only get ONE "fat rash" during the long span of my obesity. It was right before surgery. Now, 130 lbs. lighter, I'm getting rashes from the hanging skin. I have a large hanging roll that covers my waistline, and it traps a lot of moisture in the fold. I bought some Gold Bond Medicated powder, and it works well, but the medicinal smell is bothering me. I'm even more of a girly-girl now that I can wear cute clothes, and don't want to smell like grandma's medicine cabinet! Any suggestions for alternatives? (Such a catch-22: I kinda WANT the rashes so I can document for possible free plastic surgery, but I don't want to risk an infection.)thanks, pascha :)

Hi Pascha: I know the pain of fat rashes. Every summer I get them

both under my breasts and under my belly flap. So, here is what I do

that actually works quite well. If you already have the rash, apply

Bag Balm to it 2-3 times per day. This is an ointment, and may fell

icky at first, but is soooo soothing and takes the rash away quickly.

Then to prevent it, you can use any kind of powder. I suggest either

regular baby powder, or they have new scented baby powders (like

lavender, which smells really soft). I also have used the shower to

shower powders, which come in a variety of different fragrances. But

if you are interested in documenting, call your Dr. everytime and have

him suggest what to use, therefore getting documentation. Good luck

with the free plastic surgery!!! Hope this helps!! Take Care, Tamara

Plain old cornstarch works better than anything medicated or

perfumed..my daughter's first pediatrician taught me that and it

always worked great for my fat rashes......good luck,

LOL. I laughed at the "scraping too." Just when you think you are the only one!

I use A & D ointment. It it a clear cream or salve. and it has vitamin's A & D in it. It can be found in the Baby aisle, as it is mostly used for diaper rash. ( I had it because I was told to use it for my new tattoos! ) It has a very very slight smell, kinda like vaseline, but it goes away very quickly. It only takes a little, doesn't create moisture, so it wont stain your clothes or dry out the rash, whic can hurt even more. It clears it up in about two days.

I never thought of using a and d for that, I've always loved it for burns

How about Z-ABSORB or Z-ABSORB AF? That's what I use, but then my

sense of smell is kaput from my allergies, here in Sacramento. It

does help reduce the rashing.
