Guest guest
This conversation is the exact problem with the SCD. When people do get better and want to make good choices there is no network to do so. People are made to feel guilty over food choices... so many people remain grain, starch and sugar free. What's so bad about buying canned tomatoes? I agree newbies should not do any of these things.. I would not of gotten better if I did.. But does that mean people are not SCD'ers if they do reach an advanced stage? And still want to stay with-in the diet's outline? I have heard of this letter head business that Elaine delineated.. meanwhile, no one knows how this works or how she approved things. We are constantly told we need a letterhead. Meanwhile there are none. How are SCD'ers supposed to get on with their lives? I don't want to eat SAD but it sure would be nice to be able to navigate with a little more wiggle room. I truly believe in the Mantra of " make your own, make your own " and I understand the idea behind people not discussing illegals on-list.. Still, as it stands now even if a fellow SCD'er gets a letterhead I cannot know if that SCD'er asked the right questions therefor it is unreliable. What kind of system is this? Guest guest
n I had a feeling I was in trouble after I clicked on the send button and realized I was replying to the BTVC group, though the same things apply to SCD either way. Sorry- I thought I was on Pecanbread when I sent out the post- and the moderators on Pecanbread try to keep the info clear for any newbies that may be lurking. Diane D. Guest guest
Diane D, Marilyn is pretty strict when it comes to " make your own, make your own " When the hotdog debate comes up every now and again (especially Applegate) this is a sore topic.. Marilyn, definitely does not endorse any kind of commercial hot dog nor does she let the conversation go to far about it. I would say we have a bit more debate and wiggle room on BTVC-SCD than PecanBread in discussing things and helping people understand the why's. IMO BTVC-SCD also has a lot more people here that are much further along the way in their healing journey. PecanBread is full of parents at their wits end dealing with extraordinarily rough circumstances and challenges. Not to say my CD wasn't a nightmare.. Still. Though whether they are consumed might also have something to do with where the disease is centered in your body, and the locus of pathogenic bacteria creating that problem. For example, for people with UC way down their intestinal tract, near their rectum, it's possible some of this stuff is already digested by the time it passes near the problematic area, whereas other stuff is not digested and creates serious problems. In any case, we'll never be rid of the bad bugs entirely, so the trick is to maintain good gut ecology and keep everything balanced towards a low population of problematic pathogenic bacteria. To quote Francis Crawford, 'restraint is the remedy'. Actually, LDN is very helpful in this regard, in helping to maintain this balance - although it is by no means a bulletproof shield - and you can certainly have a return to symptoms even with LDN if you eat a thing that disturbs the balance of your particular gut ecology. But also, you have to remember, that not everything bothers everyone - Elaine wrote a diet that was inclusive for a variety of symptoms. So just as not all legals agree with everyone, not everyone reacts badly to some illegals. Also, some things she added to the illegal list though they hadn't bothered her daughter, because she saw over time that they consistently bothered a certain percentage of SCDers. But again not everyone. Mara
