Guest guest
Psoriasis? I have been told for years and years it is cradle cap all grown up . Typical. My kids' original pediatrician was not the best diagnostician, come to find out... She kicked us out of her practice when I went nuts and started giving my son B12 shots and feeding him crazy diets and giving him vitamins. She's a flake. We will add this to her tally of things she dropped the ball on. First in line would be my son's ASD diagnosis, which was apparent to us at 4 (his regression was way, way delayed in comparison to most ASD kids) but she still didn't see AFTER he had a clinical diagnosis, his heart murmur, 2 ear infections, his gut issues (she said he had hypermotility and wrote a Rx, which I refused to fill, I knew that wasn't the answer) and the baby's extreme reaction to vaccinations...she was humoring me when she agreed to space them out and give them one virus at a time. Needless to say, he hasn't had any since the older son's diagnosis came down the pipe. Liz, so your psoriasis was orange? Seriously, it is bright orange and crusty. So icky. They very rarely scratch their heads, so I don't think it itches at all. > Anyway...anyone have any idea if this could be linked to the gut issues or yeast or whatever and most importantly...anything new I can do? > > > I had horrible psoriasis in my scalp for years - actually similar to what you describe. They very rarely scratch their heads, so I don't think it itches at all. Mine might be grown up cradle cap, who knows for sure. Mine was yellow and gross (and very embarrassing because it would flake huge pieces and it wasn't just white dandruff), but not really orange. But it was sticky and thick and nothing, except for prednisone =( and the T-gel made it go away. I was on prednisone for 9-1/2 months once and my scalp (and all my psoriasis) cleared up. Even if what your boys have is just cradle cap, the T-gel will probably help. Liz

Guest guest
According to the Mayo Clinic website, seborrheic dermatitis is caused by a yeast called malassezia. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/seborrheic-dermatitis/DS00984/DSECTION=causes I have seborrheic dermatitis on my face. This is the same yeast that causes cradle cap & dandruff. This dermatitis is recent for me and it is barely perceptible but I have itchy places all over my forehead. It’s weird to be 55 years old and suddenly have a skin disorder. I am putting coconut oil on my face 2-3 times a day. It seems to be helping. Tea tree oil stops the itchiness immediately. Not sure what to recommend for the scalp though. Carol CD 21 yrs SCD 5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of chrissypottershah I am starting to think nearly everything wrong with my family can be helped or entirely reversed by SCD. lol. Hope it is so!! Anyway, my sons have all had chronic extreme cradle cap since they were around 4 months old. My 3 y.o. and 7 y.o. STILL have it and nothing works. It is thick and orange and scaly and DISGUSTING. Luckily they have lots of dark, thick hair or well..yuck. Anyway...anyone have any idea if this could be linked to the gut issues or yeast or whatever and most importantly...anything new I can do? We have tried olive oil and combing it out, dandruff shampoos, Dr. Bronner's, OTC cradle cap shampoos...nothing gets rid of it. Dr. Bronner's reduces it for the baby but not for the older kids and it makes their heads smell odd...kind of musty. Ick.

Guest guest
Hi Chrissy, Dana from danasview.net suggests taking biotin and selenium for this problem. She says it eliminated it completely for her and her kids. I have been following her lead on many things over the past three years (since my son got diagnosed with ASD) and I've always found her advice to be solid. Having said that, I haven't tried this treatment personally but plan to for myself. I have a very mild version of it. According to Dana, this issue is yeast related, hence the biotin. Guest guest
Chrissy,I looked up biotin on wikipedia, since I didn't know what it was, and foundthis - so it looks like it's a good possibility:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BiotinBiotin UsesCradle cap (seborrheic dermatitis)Children with a rare inherited metabolic disorder called phenylketonuria (PKU; in which one is unable to break down the amino acid phenylalanine) often develop skin conditions such as eczema and seborrheic dermatitis in areas of the body other than the scalp. The scaly skin changes that occur in people with PKU may be related to poor ability to use biotin. Increasing dietary biotin has been known to improve seborrheic dermatitis[citation needed] in these cases.___Also it apparently helps with strengthening nails - and as mine are still too weak, I'm thinkingI might try it. I tried magnesium for this last winter - but I didn't notice that it helped at all. Therewas no change as far as I could tell. Guest guest
The selenium is an interesting point. My oldest son, who has it the worst, by far, also is so low on selenium that it almost falls off the chart. He is being supplemented now but his gut is still healing so who knows how much he is getting and it may well not be enough to cover his chelation/detox/methylation needs and his scalp..lol I will go shopping for some new shampoos and try them out. Guest guest
My brother and I also have had this condition for years, but worse the last 1-2 years. Thanks everyone for the information. I will give it a try. My regimen hasn't been working well enough to cure it. I was using a zinc shampoo, and using ZPN bar soap for my face, followed by cocoa butter. -
