Guest guest
I have bought a can of " pure egg white protein " from GNC, and would love some ideas for frut shlushies or breakfast drinks that I could mix it in to. Anyone have any good ideas? Meli BMI 47 DR Hess June 21,01 Summer Solstice
Guest guest
Meli: Everyone does protein drinks their own way but I have more of a method than a recipe. First we use a strong blender which crushes ice very well. I begin by putting in 1-1/2 scoops of protein, Isopure Vanilla is the one I've chosen. I then put in 1-1/2 cups of Lactade Milk. That is 12 grams of protein for the milk and 30 for the Isopure. I then put in a handful - about 1 loosely packed cup of ice cubes, a handful of frozen fruit, either cherries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries or whatever. I put in between a teaspoon and a tablespoon of artificial sweetener, usually Splenda. There are no carbohydrates in the Isopure but about 20 grams in the milk and some more in the fruit. I then grind at low speed for about 10 or 15 seconds to grind up the ice. I then finish it off with about 5 to 10 seconds at puree. I then pour and enjoy. It comes out a bit crunchy which I like. If you want it smoother just leave it on puree or liquefy a bit longer. As I say, it is more of a method than a recipe as I don't measure anything but the scoops and the milk. The rest is all by what mood I'm in at the time. So I'd encourage you to experiment for yourself. If it is too crunchy grind longer. If it is too sweet use less sweetener. If not enough flavor put more fruit in. Regards. Guest guest
Thanks Joe!, this looks easy enough! And do you know that strawberries are a very low carb fruit? BTW, are you lactose intolerant? Guest guest
Joy and Joe and everyone: We used to make similar shakes all the time around here. The kids love them. The only difference is that we usually added a container of yogurt to the mix. We had these smoothies, preop, all the time. Before the operation though we didn't add the protein powder, just yogurt, milk, fruit and ice. Now, I can barely get down about 1/8 cup of the smoothie. I have no idea why. I've tried it without the yogurt. I've tried to water it down more. I've tried...everything I can think of. Right now I am using Atkins vanilla protein powder. I can get down about 1/2 can of ensure with extra protein or boost with extra protein, which would be about 4 oz. I am 4-1/2 weeks postop. How soon could you drink these? I would really like to be able to get them down, as they were something I enjoyed preoperatively. Thanks, Dawna
Guest guest
Dawna: When I had my surgery I spent two months in the hospital. Joy and I lived in Portland in a condo for a couple of months before we returned to San . We didn't have a blender. When we came back to San Joy was 8 weeks out and I was 16 weeks out. We did begin doing protein drinks then but I feel we could have significantly sooner. But Joy was able to do it at least 8 weeks out. Sorry, that's the best answer I have. And thanks for the tip. I'll try putting a cup of yogurt in the next one I make. We have some in the frig. Regards.
