Guest guest
Hi - After my husbands recent partial obstruction, I too was interested in learning about the SED rate. When my husband went into the hospital with pain his SED rate was a 7. The next day after being put on prednisone, it was a 4. I asked the three doctors that we saw that were on call at different times to explain such a low SED rate with an obstruction. The doctors all acted like the SED rate didn't matter yet two of the three had ordered tests for it. The SED rate is supposed to measure the inflammation in the body. I'm sure I haven't answered your question but just wanted you to know that the SED rate is not always a good indicator of what is going on with the body. We just received SED rate for daughters blood test taken on 9/11, she was only officially on strict diet since 9/4. . . . I don't know what prior SED rate levels were. I would just like to be able to monitor & gage her progress and understand when she is improving. BTW our pediatric GI is willing to prescribe the LDN down the road, she is currently being weaned of prednisone and taking 6MP, doctor stated she doesn't believe it is effective, but willing to give it a try and mentioned the local pharmacy that prescribes. I felt that this was very encouraging news! daughter 17, crohns 6/09SCD 9/09 Hotmail: Powerful Free email with security by Microsoft. Get it now. Guest guest
I was flaring recently and my SED rate was 21. I was put on Pred and I got better much quicker. I started at 40 mg but now have tapered down to 10 mg. I have an appointment in 2 weeks and am interested in seeing what my SED rate is now. I am soooo much better now. The prednisone works much quicker and better than usual. I am on LDN now and Welbutrin so I wonder if this is the difference. Anyway, how bad is an SED rate of 21. I was really, really sick at that time. Flaring terrible. Guest guest
I think SED rates go from 1-20, with 20 being the higher limit of normal, but not an ideal number. The better indicator is how sick you felt. Now that you are better, it is likely to be lower. PJ > > > I was flaring recently and my SED rate was 21. I was put on Pred and I got better much quicker.
