Guest guest
Hey Alli.. Just look forward and even now- stay on the diet. You learned your lesson. Just because you fell off the wagon doesn't mean you can't just get up and forge ahead. You're fine, you're human. I always keep easy go to foods on hand even when I was in my early days so I wouldn't get hungry and cave (those were my weakest points) legal canned fish in water or olive oil with salt as an additive and nothing else is great for this. If you eat cheese having some DCCC or aged cheese in the fridge packaged is also fantastic. So is avocado and enough eggs at home. I always have individually frozen meat patties in the freezer. Also, having snacks on you is a great thing. Getting hungry outside is a recipe for disaster. Good luck with your colonoscopy and you are doing just fine.. don't beat yourself up too much but learn from this experience that it just isn't worth it! Guest guest
SCD is a big commitment. When I originally started in Sept 07, I was doing it all wrong too. I went in the hospital Oct 30, 07. They had me on super high doses of Prednisone and I was eating everything they brought me no matter what it was. I was sooooo sick then. I didn't do intro or anything like that. When I came out, I tried to go back SCD, but the Prednisone had me craving carbs and acting crazy. They never told me what the side effects were. Well, I finally buckled down in January 08 and started the diet. I still didn't do intro and was doing it all wrong until I found the Long Island List Serve (the predecessor to this group) and people were talking about intro and the slow addition of foods and advanced and stuff I had never really thought of. I started the intro diet on Feb 5, 08 and my pain was gone almost overnight. I was off pain meds. YAY!!!! I haven't purposely consumed an illegal yet. I was a smoker at one time too. A SAD diet is as addicting as smoking. You're used to convenience and comfort. You'll just have to keep your mind occupied with other things. Breaking addictions are hard even when we know they are bad for our bodies. Don't be too hard on yourself and reesolve to take it one step at a time. That's why I keep up with how long I've been on SCD and haven't cheated (I have accidentily had illegals but I've never purposely had any since Jan 5, 08). That reminder keeps me going because if I ever do have an illegal, I'll have to start over at day 1. Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 21 months and 2 days > > I've always been an emotional eater. Tonite as I think about fasting tomorrow and the horror of colonoscopy prep, was no different --- after a hard day with the kids and not enough SCD food on hand to keep me from getting a splitting hunger headache, I gobbled up a bowl of dry cereal. It sits like a heavy brick in my gut. My first illegal in nearly 3 weeks. I was doing the diet all wrong anyway... I guess after Thursdays procedure I can make a " clean " start. > > Alli >
Guest guest
Don't beat yourself up, you're human, and there is a learning curve with SCD. The incentive not to cheat is that one small bite to you of something illegal is a bug feast. This is why, unlike a weight loss diet, if you eat too much one day, you can just keep going the next. Once you start feeling better, you won't want illegals to get in the way of that. You can still eat though. Many people here have posted about the delicious nut butter with honey, muffins and other good stuff. Make sure you have some of the " good stuff " around for when you do have cravings! You won't feel deprived. PJ > > > > I've always been an emotional eater. Guest guest
Alli, you can make a clean start at any moment that you feel it is right. The moment you start, the moment you're going to feel better. After a few hours you will feel good again. Don't beat yourself over it. I had gummi worms this weekend... I don't know what got into me. Then I was ill for 2 days.
