Guest guest
Hi Jodi, It was all food I'd eaten successfully before. My mom thinks I overdid the fruit though. I had 1/4 cup of cooked apricots (and spit out any stringy parts), around 1/2 cup of fresh strawberry juice (it was pretty thick), and a small piece of that wonderful cherry clafouti dessert. The cherries are number 1 suspect, even though I've eaten that dish a handful of other times in the past month. Also, for the 3 days prior, I'd been washing/freezing cherries for this winter, and each of those 3 days I ate either 2 of the cherries raw. Maybe just that small amount riled things up. Vegetable wise, I had at least a half cup of cooked zucchini/crook neck squash with butter on it. All my other foods are things I've eaten everyday for the last several months (2 cups yogurt/1 tbsp. honey, 1 beet brownie, 2 pieces of cheese, 1 tbsp. coconut oil, 2 deviled egg slices, a tbsp. of almond butter). Guest guest
Holly, It might help to have the GI call the PCP personally to discuss your need to see the surgeon. Perhaps if you call the GI and explain the problem, she may be able to help you. Also, when you call either PCP or GI--( I'd call both )--tell them you're in pain and don't appreciate the run-around. Sorry you don't feel well. Terry To: BTVC-SCD From: spookyhurst@...Date: Tue, 18 Aug 2009 05:49:02 +0000Subject: Partial Blockage Last Night :-( I had my first blockage since starting SCD. I think it was "just" a partial one, since I was able to avoid going to the ER. Ugh! There was no warning either. I've been feeling perfectly fine, but last night after dinner, I started to feel the beginnings of the on-and-off again pains that signal a blockage. The pain peaked in the middle of the night, and then subsided by morning.Today's exciting menu was 4 glasses of grape juice (diluted 50% with water) and 1 cup of yogurt (split into 2 separate servings) with a little honey. Tomorrow will probably be the same. I also dug up some old prednisone pills and decided to do a 5-10 day "burst" to help any inflammation.I wonder if this means my Humira has quit working?Anywho, I'm scheduled to consult a surgeon next Monday IF my PCP/his staff can get off their butts and give me a referral. I was supposed to see the surgeon last week, but apparently my PCP needs to review my colonscopy results because he doesn't automatically believe my GI when she says I should see a surgeon. I may even need to see said PCP before he will give me a referral. Um...hello? You send me to a GI because she is a SPECIALIST! Now you don't trust her judgment? Ridiculous. As if seeing me in the flesh will help him determine whether or not I need a surgeon. Anyway, rant over. Hopefully things will work out.HollyCrohn'sSCD 12/01/

Guest guest
Thanks Terry, I may have to do that. I like both my PCP and my GI, but it's such a hassle to get ahold of them. They either have more patients then they can handle, or they don't have enough staff. I feel much better today! I still just ate yogurt and drank grape juice, although my body seems to subsisting on it pretty well. I might add a scrambled egg in tomorrow. That has happened to me a few times in the past when I ran out and/or forgot to take, vitamins. Including one time when I went too long between B-12 shots. Some of the B-vitamins (I forget which ones), are very important to keeping the peristaltic motions of the intestines running properly. A very important thing for those of us that are susceptible to blockages. Tom

Guest guest
Hey Tom, Has this happened to you when you have forgotten to eat? Jodi
Guest guest
Hi Holly.. I had that happen too That I would eat foods that would be fine and sometimes I'd react violently. I am dealing with some scar tissue now post surgery.. Cherries are so delicious.. bummer that they may be a culprit. I need to learn to chew better. I should go live in a monastery unfortunately they eat a lot of rice LOL. Jodi

Especially after 2 terminal ileum resections. For all of the doctor bashing, in 2 cases where my gut shut down, my doctor at the time (a surgeon in 1968, a GP in early 80's) recognized the problem and suggested taking multi-vitamins and my gut took off and worked well again. After the first time, I sort of forgot about it after a decade or so. But after the second time, I got the message. Tom

Guest guest
Thanks Tom, I had an ileocolic resection in May.. I don't use vitamin capsules. My Surgeon told me that the area in the terminal ileum that is responsible absorbing many nutrients didn't really do any of that for me anyway since it was so scarred. I look at my nails post surgery and they have changed; some are flat, have ridges and more white spots. I try and supplement with liquid nutrients from Body Bio but I have a hard time taking regular supplements. I therefore do juicing and I get weekly IV's. I still somehow don't feel this is enough. Maybe it is a matter of time? Jodi
