Guest guest
HI Kay wish i could help you but i dont know anything about the symptoms you are having. I think if it were me i would mention it to my doctor or advice nurse. It is a white deposit of some kind on the back of my tongue back by my left tonsil. When I swallow it grazes my tonsil and is making it sore. I have scraped as much of that stuff off as I can get to, considering the gag reflex. Is this like vitamin build up or something? I can't seem to gargle it away and it only goes away by my scraping it. Even with the scraping it seems to come back and I have noticed it is further down my tongue tonight.Any thoughts?Oh on a good note I weighed myself at the gym tonight....FINALLY! And the scale said I have lost 16lbs in 10 days??? I kept staring at the scale and the girlfriend I had with me counted as well, since I didn't believe my eyes. It is 16 lbs less since I was weighed before surgery. What a trip! Guest guest
Kay: I had my pre op today, and funny thing is, Doc mentioned something about a lady who thought she had a growth on her tongue shortly after surgery. She was real worried about it. Turns out, after surgery they have you drink some stuff that is like a liquid glue. It binds to any raw or open skin. It's purpose is to help close the pouch and anastamosis...added insurance I guess. WEll, this lady must have had a small sore spot on her tongue and didn't know it. And the glue binded to it. If your spot is truly getting bigger, I guess this couldn't be it. Anyway, he said it would be there till the body replaced those skin cells the glue had binded to...a few months. Maybe that is it? If the white spot is sore, thoough, it could be thrush. Laurie __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Kay: I have asthma and use a Q-Var inhaler (cortisone). After surgery I guess I wasn't rinsing completely and got a mild case of thrush (yeast) on my tongue. It was sorta white and red patterned, sore and brushing it was uncomfortable. I think the same thing can sometimes happen with some antibiotics so I also encourage you to check with your doctor, because there are prescription lozenges available to help clear it up if needed. Good luck, Sherri > > Kay: > I had my pre op today, and funny thing is, Doc > mentioned something about a lady who thought she had a > growth on her tongue shortly after surgery. Guest guest
Oh, Kay. I've had thrush, which looks like a white coating on your tongue, and that's what it sounds like you have. (not fun at all! If left unchecked it can cause a sore throat.) I suggest you call the advice nurse ASAP or make an appointment with a doctor. Thrush is actually a type of yeast infection in the mouth, but it is easily cured. They have a losenge, a type of pill that you suck on until it is absorbed in the mouth. I found it didn't taste too gross, actually OK. Also, congrads on the weight loss. --Sandi > Hi everyone! > I have been doing good with my Stage II diet and getting in lots of water now. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply Sandi! I feel better knowing what that is now. I will call on Monday and get an appt. The white stuff seems to be going away a bit and my throat isn't so sore, but I want it gone for good. I was wondering it was that carafate for awhile, since it turns things chalky when I have dropped a little before. I wonder how that yeast gets up there? I have never had a yeast infection before. Thanks again for the reply and the congrats on the weight loss. Yesterday was a great day! I worked out my " normal " excercise rountine finally and went into the weight room too. Boy was I full of energy afer that! Hope you are having a good weekend? Guest guest
Thanks for your responses, Laurie and La Wanda, I have since been checking the back of my tongue and that stuff seems to have gone away. I don't remember drinking anything that was glueish? But I could have, I was pretty out of it and everything they gave me I did drink. So who knows? At least that stuff is going away on my tongue by itself. Whew. I am back to work today and I already feel tired. I have a 40 minute drive and it wore me out. Did anyone else have problems with driving after surgery? Thanks again for the reply! Guest guest
I remember my tongue being white also after surgery. My throat also hurt as well at least for a few hours. However, I was given lemon flavored glycerin sticks to moisten my mouth and the following day I was given ice water to drink. > > > > >Kay: > > >I had my pre op today, and funny thing is, Doc > > >mentioned something about a lady who thought she had a > > >growth on her tongue shortly after surgery.
