I have never used Bob's Red Mill. There was something -- I cannot

remember when or where, because it was probably in my early days on SCD

when I was trying to differentiate between what was SCD-legal and what

were the personal quirks of individual writers. (There was one person

with multiple chemical sensitivites who was adamant that everything had

to be organic, and if you ever bought conventional cheese and butter you

would die and go to h-ll, and you should never used bleached parchment,

and Ghod forbid you ever use a microwave and... you get the picture.

While she had valid points, it was VERY confusing to separate what was

utterly critical from the tweaks she had to make because of her

additional issues.)

Anyway -- I believe there was a cross-contamination issue: that the mills

they used for nut flours were also used for grains. Now, they did clean

the mills between uses, and the first few minutes of a run, they always

threw away, but.... some people do well with Bob's Red Mill and some

people do not.

Marilyn,

Carol F is not into Bob's due to cross contamination issues (maybe some other

things perhaps?)

The flour looked so silky.. I was tempted.

But I actually like the texture of the baked bread with it being a bit more

hearty and dense.. It becomes fluffy and cake like. But I have not

experimented enough.

It would be lovely to make a mixture from both types of flours.

Do you think running shredded coconut through the Maverick will make it finer?

Or not really?

I feel " off " today.. But am totally able to function! I am so thankful that I

am not bed ridden. Still not touching their products anymore.. I have not had

that kind of explosive and mucous ridden D in a long time.

I do not have any issues with various coconut products.

I still have some Bob's Red Mill left and I want some bread - so maybe

I'll use that up

while I'm expecting my Tropical traditions any day now.

Cross contamination is important for MCS people, celiac people and some

really sensitive people, but most other people on this list, to the

best of my

knowledge, are not effected by it noticeably.

Just order some from Tropical Traditions. Don't bother with the

Maverick.

No, I did fine with Bob Redmill coconut flour. I wonder why you had such a

problem?

Try it, and find out! <g> The worst that can happen is that you get

crunchy coconut which can add texture to something else. I like the pecan

meal I get using fresh pecans and the fine grinding plate on my

Maverick.

Sorry you are under the weather... I'm not feeling too great, myself. I

was sitting with my Mom today, and she categorically refused to eat

anything except some Ensure. <sigh>

Very valid points, Marilyn, about the cross-contamination. We just

can never KNOW.

A few years ago I read on some health-minded group that a reason to

avoid Bob's Red Mill products is that they are so prevalent that they

often sit on the shelves too long. I haven't used one for years for

that reason, anything, but it does seem to me that something that's a

little bit old, just a little bit stale even, if going to leave us

feeling a little bit " off " and maybe not even knowing why. Of course

that doesn't say anything about how long other manufacturer's

products sit around before we buy them. Another reason to make our own!

Yeah. Several sugars, HFCS, soy protein... I felt sick just reading the

ingredients. Maybe I can dilute things like the pot roast puree with more

bone broth and she can sip that through a straw....
