Guest guest
, We must have had our surgery on the same day, or within a day of each other. I was on June 8th...and guess what...I'm having EXACTLY the same issue. I lost 20 lbs as of Wednesday, and here it is Sunday, and I finally lost one more lb. Also, I've thrown up a couple of times because things hurt going down, not so much nausea, but feeling like things are stuck. And these are things like an egg. Or cheese. Maybe it's that we are being a bit less careful about chewing a gazillion times, and taking tiny bites. YOu know, it isn't quite as novel and scary to eat in certain ways, so I'm just wondering if I'm being less cautious about the size of my bite, and the chewing I'm doing. As for the weight loss stall...it's only a stall...and it's completely normal. Everyone on here has had a week or so when they didn't lose anything. Pam was very slow in the beginning, for example...and I think she went three full weeks without losing a lb. ANd trust me, she was doing everything by the book, that's just the way she is. But then, all of a sudden, she dropped six lbs. overnight. And she has continued to lose in big chunks...and now she's getting to be really thin. So, I have had moments of panic too...particularly because I've had difficulty in my life losing weight...and I worry about it. But let's get a grip. I mean, good Lord, you've lost 29 lbs. in less than a month!! That's unbelievable!!! That's 8 lbs. more than I have. And that's a lot more than most people. Your body just needs to rest a little bit, so don't stress about that. The weightloss WILL come. If you don't mind me asking, what was your surgery weight? Mine was 235.5, and I now weigh 214. I really want to have lost 25 lbs. by my one month anniversary, which is Wednesday. But, we'll see. I've also not been able to get in as much water as I need, so I increased that a bit, and lost a lb. I think it's normal. I'm not sure about the pain going down, and all of that...it's worried me too. but, I think we need to just make sure we're drinking enough fluids...taking tiny bites...chewing like maniacs...and listening to our body to tell us when we've had enough... What do you think? Anyone else out there have advice for us? Did you guys go through that? Guest guest
Robynn, Oh my gosh, thank you so much for your reply....I sat here crying as I read your e-mail cause I have someone who can relate to what I am going through. I have felt so awful and emotional today that I feel like a baby. My surgery was the day after yours. The stuck feeling is so awful, the thing I forgot to say was that I was eating yogurt when I got the stuck feeling and ream soup the other time. Even water has made me feel the same way, I attribute that to maybe drinking it too fast. Like you, eggs made me feel the same way. It's so weird that this feeling happend 3 weeks later. I will try chewing even more with the other things, but that's tough with yogurt... I have a lot more weight to lose than you do, I will e-mail you and talk to you more about that, you are doing great with your weight loss, I guess like you, I am so scared that I did this surgery and worry that I won't continue losing weight like normal GB patients and it freaks me out not losing these last days. I am an emotional wreck right now and not sure why. I know I can't get enough water down either, maybe 30 oz a day, so I will try and increase that too and see if it helps. I am happy about the 29 lb loss, don't get me wrong, but I guess it came off so fast that I thought it would just keep going like that. Silly I guess. I do plan on calling my Dr. tomorrow to see if the pain is something to be concerned over just in case. Thanks for your advice, I feel a bit better knowing that I'm not alone. > Here I am again with more questions... > I'm a bit scared and nervous over the fact that I am 3 weeks and 4 > days out of surgery and since yesterday, anything I eat has been > hurting as it goes down. Guest guest
Robin Zemel, I will listen and take all advice given, It's feels so good to hear from people who have been through this and have experienced the stuff I am going through. It's a scary feeling when you don't know what to expect. What protein have you been taking?I can't even manage to get over 30 grams of protein without feeling sick. How in the world are you getting 90 grams in? Is it a certain brand of protein you take or is it a combination with your food? Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. > > Here I am again with more questions... > > I'm a bit scared and nervous over the fact that I am 3 weeks and 4 > > days out of surgery and since yesterday, anything I eat has been > > hurting as it goes down. Guest guest
Yes its completely normal. You are in hybernation mode where your body just realizes you messed with it. It will pass...just keep doing your protein water and exercise and it will begin again. As for food hurting. Make sure its moist enough and that you are chewing very very well. Guest guest
The best advice I've ever been given is, if weighing every day stresses (or worries) you, just DON'T WEIGH YOURSELF THAT OFTEN!! Sometimes you don't loose weight but you loose inches. Sometimes, you retain water. It should be enough if you weigh yourself once a week, and no more. That's what I do, once a week, and rarely any more often. Some people only let themselves be weighed when they go to the doctor for followup appointments. Just trust yourself. If you are eating right, drinking enough water and exercises enough, you will do fine. However if you hurt when you eat, first make sure you are chewing thoroughly. Make sure it isn't too dense or hard foods that cannot be chewed up thoroughly. If you still have pain, check with your surgeon's office. I don't think it should ever hurt when you are eating the right kind of foods. I hope you find out what the problem is. --Sandi H. (Citrus Heights) Surgery by Dr. Leo (San Diego) weighed 315 at orientation (May '03) -- BMI 60 252 at surgery (06/03/04) --BMI 46.1 last weighed at 175.0 (07/02/05) --BMI 33.1 (I've lost a total of 140.0 pounds!!!! 77.0 pounds since surgery.) I'm 5'1 " tall. Official goal is between 130 and 140 pounds (although ideal weight for my height is around 110 pounds) Then I'll start shopping around to get rid of excess skin. sandiantoytrain @ yahoo . com > Here I am again with more questions... > I'm a bit scared and nervous over the fact that I am 3 weeks and 4 > days out of surgery and since yesterday, anything I eat has been > hurting as it goes down. Guest guest
Robynn, I concur everything you have said. Here is one thing to keep in mind that I have just figured out. I spoke to Dr. Baggs during my 12 week apt. about this nagging feeling I was having. I noticed it shortly after eating but not really like pain...just nagging and it is really hard for me to explain. Dr. Baggs and Dr. Park prescribed more carafate for me. Well, I figured out that that little nagging feeling was from my vitamins/supplements. I should not say this but I noticed that for two days I did not take them and nothing and as soon as I started back, that nagging feeling came right back. Never bothered me early after surgery but right around the 12 week mark and thereafter I have it. I am not sure if my food has not settled enough so that when I do take the vitamins/supplements there is a coating. I will be going to my 5 month apt. tomorrow so I will ask if they are there but I don't think they will as we are suppose to have the psychologist there again (she was there for the 4 month post op apt.). I know they will be there for the 6th month post op. apt. I hope you and figure out what is hurting you. Robynn, you know you can always email Dr. Fisher although I think you will get better results from Dr. Baggs (with responding to emails that is). I wish you luck. Guest guest
Hi , Congrats on what you have lost so far! It is excellent! I had surgery just a week ago today. I haven't weighed myself yet since I have been home. I only have a scale at work and at my gym. I think I will go to the gym today. The thing is even though I can see that I am losing weight, I don't want the scale to say something else. I have a question on the pain you were talking about associated with eating the yogurt? I can't seem to eat yogurt. I get two bites down and my pouch just doesn't like it. Maybe you are just getting intolerant to dairy? I felt my pouch really object to me drinking too much water yesterday and it hurt for like an hour. the pain went up into my throat. I got really dehydrated and called the advise line in hysterics thinking I needed to come in for an IV bag. I was talked down and then I sipped my water more slowly and continuely for the rest of the day. I went to bed at 11pm and woke up at 6. FINALLY a decent night's sleep. That helped my mental state so much. So I think we all have those " emotional " days and just keep plugging along, you are doing really great with your weightloss. I think someone wise here mentioned before not to compare yourself to others on the weight loss, I mean think of it, how long would it have taken you to lose that weight with out surgery? It would have taken me 3-4 months! You lost it in less than a month? You go girl! Hang in there and let us know what the Dr says, I am interested since I am coming up on my stage III diet. Have a good day, hope you don't mind my adding my two cents? Keep up the good work! Guest guest
Kay, Congratulations to you on your surgery!! Thanks for the congrats....I know I couldn't have lost this much weigt in 3 months, I just wasn't sure if it was normal to stop losing so soon. I guess my fear of staying fat or having a difficult time losing it scares me. I am going to take the advice that I was given and only weigh once a week so I don't stress so much over it and get freaked out so much. Are you already working out at the gym? The pain I was talking about with the yogurt is like it just wouldn't go down, below the breast bone before my stomach. It was like it wouldn't go smooth and it kind of took my reath away. I ate yogurt last night, and it was ok. I had the same thing happen as you did with the water..I was so scared to have water hurt going down. I can relate to how you felt. They tried to IV me 5 times in the hospital before surgery so I make sure I try to get as much liquid in for fear of having to get an IV again. The emotional part seems to be the hardest for me because I am so happy for days and then I cy for no reason on another. Hearing from others on the reasons made me feel a lot better. You will get a lot of info and in sight from everyone here and I appreciate all the advice I have been given. I will let you know what my Dr. says when I call them. Have a great week and thanks for your reply Good luck on your new journey, > > > Here I am again with more questions... > > > I'm a bit scared and nervous over the fact that I am 3 weeks and > 4 > > > days out of surgery and since yesterday, anything I eat has been > > > hurting as it goes down.
