Guest guest
I'm wondering why coconut is advanced. On here, it seems like most people have had an easier time with coconut that with nuts. Also, I've read multiple articles about people with chronic D being helped by coconut macaroons. I also know someone who says it works for her. Also, one of these articles mentioned someone with Crohns alleviating some symptoms ( I think D ) by eating coconut macaroons. And all the articles say that the magic ingredients is coconut. Have any of you heard this/ have any thoughts? Guest guest
I believe - not positive though - because it is fibrous. IME - though not, perhaps, in the experience of everyone, I think that fibrous foods are more problematic for Crohn's people than UC people. Other people like Eileen appear to be very sensitive to die off and those kinds of effects. OTOH, it is also naturally anti-inflammatory, which is helpful for UC people. Similarly, Alyssa, the vitamin E Carlson suppositories might be helpful for you. Just google vitamine E carlson suppository if you think you might be interested in that. Guest guest
I'm not sure why it's considered advanced, especially since nuts are just as fibrous. I personally did (and still do) much better with coconut flour than any nut flour. I wish I had tried coconut flour sooner. I kept trying nuts and trying to convince myself they were tolerable. I needed to gain weight so I feel like I put my healing on hold by eating so many nut products. When I saw a recipe for coconut flour muffins, and noticed it only called for a couple tablespoons of coconut flour (for 6 muffins, the rest is made up of eggs, coconut oil and milk) I figured I should try it. The recipe I was making with almond flour, I used 1 full cup of almond flour (for 6 muffins), no wonder I couldn't tolerate it! After discovering that I could tolerate coconut flour and not nuts, I decided to throw out the whole idea of " stages " or " advanced foods " and just start adding foods one at a time to see if I can tolerate it. I stress the adding ONE AT A TIME part, it can get really difficult and complicated if you try adding new things in too fast. Give each new food two solid weeks before adding anything else. This has worked well for me. I found out I can tolerate broccoli and raw fruit, even though I can't even eat boiled spinach. Sometimes " stages " don't work for everyone. The general stage rules seem to work though, well-cooked veggies and fruit are easier to tolerate in the beginning. In terms of healing and anti-inflammatory properties, it's the coconut fat that works best. So make sure whatever recipe you're using isn't just coconut flour (which is de-fatted), but also coconut oil and coconut milk. If any recipe calls for butter, use coconut oil instead.
