Miriam:

It sounds like you've got a case of pre-op jitters in the making. All of us had them to one degree or another. I did the week before surgery, but found that on the morning of, I was as calm as I could be. I had taken a long series of steps to get to surgery, and that day I realized that's exactly where I needed and wanted to be. Write again if the jitters get too intense--there are a lot of people here who will share their experiences.

All best,

Pat

Wow, you're almost there, only a couple more weeks. Don't worry,

everything will be all right. Please let us know how you do while you're

in the hospital. I mean after you get home. Best of luck to you, LaWanda

Hey Miriam...

I had my surgery (Dr. Fisher with Dr. Baggs assisting) on Wednesday (exactly one week and one day ago). I can tell you that the entire staff, anesthesiologist, CRNA, surgeons, RNs...were incredibly professional and helpful. I can also say that it was far less painful than I thought it would be.

I was nervous, didn't know what to expect. I posted a few days back and gave a blow by blow of everything that happened that a.m. and up until my release. You may want to read it, as knowledge can really alleviate the jitters. I always find that the unknown is always the biggest source of fear for me.

What I can tell you is do your breathing exercises on the little machine that they gave you at the pre-op class (or will give you if you haven't had the pre-op class yet). Make sure you walk alot...as much as you can post surgery. Have a positive attitude. Remind yourself that you are doing this for your health, and it will be a great thing for you. Try to laugh.

You'll do great. Follow the doctor's orders...order your vitamins now, so they'll be waiting for you when you get home. Make sure you have a caregiver with you for at least a few days, it helps alot.

I found that i needed a number of back rubs afterwards, as my back was sore (either from laying around a lot...or from the air they fill you up with turning into gas and migrating into muscles.)

I get tired, but the soreness (which was really just like I had done wayyyyy too many sit ups after having not worked out for a long time...so, in other words, kind of a deep muscle soreness) is quite bearable...and the pain meds help a lot.

You'll do great. i look forward to us charting our progress and exchanging tips as we continue on during the process.

Hey there...

Sure, I'll try to go to the Richmond meeting. Remind me as it gets closer, ok? It starts a bit early as I recall...but I won't be working long days for a while anyway, so it will probably be just fine.

I work in Oakland, on Lake Merritt...and I live in SF in the Marina (between Fisherman's Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge, directly above Chrissy Field).

So far, I've lost 11 lbs. (16 including the water weight I gained in the hospital, and 37 including the pre-surgery weight, but not including the five lbs. of water in the hospital.)

I started at 261, and I now weigh 224. I'm 5'6".

How are you doing on your pre-surgery weight, are you under goal still?
