Guest guest
Do you eat all of those things at other times, without that reaction? My first inclination is a slight allergy or intolerance. My 3 y.o. starts choking and gagging like he has a hair ball if he has peanut butter - it itches and hurts a little. No anaphylaxis, rash or anything else, just the itching. Weird, isn't it? You can have a very, very mild allergy to something that only bothers you if you are having too much or too often. Allergies come in degrees. Chrissy Subject: Smoothies and sore throatTo: BTVC-SCD Date: Thursday, September 17, 2009, 6:51 AM I had a question about my smoothie I have every morning. It's tasty, anad it holds me, but whenever I drink it my throat gets really sore! I don't get it. It's not the coconut oil, because it still hurts even when I don't add it. I'm thinking maybe the almond butter because the yogurt, banana and honey seem pretty soft/easy, but why would this happen? Am I drinking it too fast? I drink it with a straw. Thanks for any tips!Pour Dieu, pour terre,Alyssa 15UC April 2008, diagnosed Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds except for the stupid iron pill I have to take that is SO illegal
Guest guest
Hi Alyssa.. Dunno if it is your problem but back during allergy season (no allergies for me this year YAY!! Many yay's actually lately!) When I would eat yogurt it would make my throat really scratchy and sometimes hard to swallow.. Also, Candida triggers will give me a sore throat too.. Just a thought.. Guest guest
Alyssa, Hmmmm.... you feel it's the almond flour/butter bothering your throat. Does it feel itchy too? This happens to Kaitlyn when the flour is raw. Her problem is due to having OAS (you can check wikipedia) because she is allergic to birch trees - seasonal allergies. When the almond flour is baked, it changes the protein and she is okay as long as she doesn't eat too much of it. She can not eat cherries, pears, apples due to OAS. So it you have seasonal allergies, this could be an OAS symptom. - Kaitlyn's Mom Kaitlyn, just turned 11 !! I only use that in smoothies because I have nothing else to eat it on/with. Guest guest
Alyssa, from what you've said before you can eat I would suspect the almond butter first. It could be you are having a bit more than you can handle right now with adding it to breakfast (if you are having it later in the day, too). In which case maybe a smaller amount would be OK, like just in the smoothie. It can also be (I've had this) that there are things you can tolerate at one time of the day but not another -- these can be a bit tricky to sort out. I had a question about my smoothie I have every morning. It's tasty, anad it holds me, but whenever I drink it my throat gets really sore! I don't get it. Guest guest
Alyssa, If you figure out you can eat the almond butter, there are plenty of things to put it on. I admit, I used to use rice crackers, ugh, ugh. But now I put it on apple slices, lettuce, slices of turnip, that kind of thing. Works just fine! Unless you decide it's causing that sore throat, in which case maybe leave it a couple of weeks and try again. I tried the almond butter about a month into this and it was too soon. But a couple weeks later and it is fine, unless I eat too much. Once or twice a day is OK for me. Hmm..all except the almond butter. I only use that in smoothies because I have nothing else to eat it on/with. Pour Dieu, pour terre, Alyssa

Guest guest
But now I put it on apple slices, lettuce, slices of turnipCan't have any of that. Nothing raw, and I'm hesitant to try almond butter on cooked apple slices...doesn't sound good or possible =) Pour Dieu, pour terre,Alyssa 15UC April 2008, diagnosed Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds except for the stupid iron pill I have to take that is SO illegal

Guest guest
I mix warm cooked apples with a spoonful of nut butter until mushy. Then top yogurt with it, add lots of cinnamon. Yum! Guest guest
Well, probably true. If you don't have anything raw yet, it's hard to imagine something cooked that is firm enough to spread it on. In my diet that would leave my chicken breast slices if I didn't have raw stuff and frankly, I'm having a hard time imagining almond butter on chicken! But now I put it on apple slices, lettuce, slices of turnip Can't have any of that.
