Guest guest
Hello. I was diagnosed with UC in 2007 and have managed it through Asacol and a gluten free diet til a few weeks ago. About a month ago my symptoms worsened and I am trying this diet as well as antibiotics, fish and possibly steroids if I don't start getting better sooner. I don't know any other people with this disease and was interested in corresponding with folks that have experienced this. I am in my late 30s. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Johanna- I hope you don't mind me saying, but be careful adding antibiotics into the mix. What you are trying to do to cure yourself from UC is to restore the gut flora to its natural balance. Antibiotics will kill both good and bad bacteria alike. I made the same mistake with my daughter who has Crohn's. We tried the antibiotic therapy first before finding SCD. The antibiotics did not help her improve in any areas at all. While she didn't get worse, she didn't get better either. Once she started SCD, we threw caution to the wind and stopped all the antibiotics. I figured it was futile to try and replace all the good bacteria while we were killing it with the antibiotics. She started SCD almost 2yrs ago with no antibiotics and med-free and has been doing great ever since. All symptoms gone, bloodwork normal, sed rate down to 2, and finally growing normally again. Give SCD a try for a month or two before you decide if steroids will be neccessary. Diane D.
