Laparoscopic vs. open in male patients

Hello All,

I have been guilty of lurking....just reading about everyone's experiences has been both informative and helpful. My husband will be having his surgery at Richmond as soon as he loses the rest of his 10% (15lbs. to go).

My question is about laparoscopic vs. open surgery in men. My dh's doc said that a good percentage of men end up having the open surgery for the simple fact that most men carry their weight in their bellies and that makes it difficult to do the laparoscopic. The doc did say if he lost the rest of his 10% and possible a little more, then the lap. might be a possibility.

Of you men out there which surgery did you have and how long was your recovery time?
