Guest guest
Richmond-10% starts the day of your orientation and not a day before. Fremont: I think they take your heightest weight and anything you have lost since then. SF: I think you can start right way to. Please don't quote me on Fremont and SF as I went through Richmond so I am almost positive that I am wrong about SF. Sorry I could not offer more assistance. Pam Marsh --- " Azeeeeeeeeeeen! Guest guest
I know this one.... I know OK the 10% starts on your orientation date. They will have everyone fill out this sheet of information and then they will call you to a room, they weigh you and then put it on that sheet of paper. That is the "MAGIC" number you have to go by. They don't tell you how much weight to loose but just do the math from it down to 10%. I know your feeling about surprises. But this it the enchilada for you. Miriam Surgery 7/8/2005 "Azeeeeeeeeeeen! Guest guest
Depends on which program. Richmond does NOT count any weight lost before the first appointment with the Bariatrics department, which is usually Orientation, but occasionally a patient will have an initial consult with the surgeon shortly before Orientation. Just depends on how they're scheduling. At that first appointment they will determine your initial weight, and that is the basis of the 10%. Fremont I believe uses your highest documented weight, even if that was with your PCP a few months before. I would recommend verifying that WITH THE BARIATRICS DEPARTMENT though. Do NOT take what your PCP might tell you as factual, nor the nutritionist who did the initial evaluation prior to surgery approval, nor the psych, etc. Do NOT take as gospel anything not told you by the Bariatrics folks at the facility that is going to be doing your surgery! Bottom line, if you have not been seen by the surgeon or had your orientation yet, I would NOT recommend losing weight. I know, it feels like it's counterproductive, but there you are. Guest guest
In Kaiser Permanente Riverside, they weighed you at orientation date, also you were given the 10% amount number you have to lose before surgery. Also they measure your hips & your waist. When I took orientation in Feb. 2004, they told me I had to lose 5% of the weight. When you got to the 5% you were referred you to the Bariatric Surgery group and then continue with the remaining 5% weightloss. It took me 1 year and 4 months to get to goal. (actually I lost 39lbs instead of 32lbs (my 10% goal). When I took the last class in June 2004 they were sending people to Pacific Bariatrics, in July 2004, you were able to go to Crown Bariatrics in Corona, CA, which is only a couple of miles from my home in Riverside. However, Crown Bariatrics does surgeries in Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, Ca (Lake Elsinore area). > Hey All, > > I'm sure this has been discussed a 100 million zillion times but let's > revisit this age old question...When does the 10% cound??? 10% from > your orientation date or 10% from your appointment with the surgeon? > I'm trying to lose but I don't want any surprises - thanks, azin

Guest guest
I forget where you are having your surgery, but if in Richmond they take your weight from your orientation. If you are at SSF or Fremont, then they take the weight on your referal I believe. Guest guest
I only know about my experience with Fremont. They took the highest weight in the last year (doctors) and they made me loose ten % from that. Also at fremont you can loose the ten percent " BEFORE " orientation. Cecilia --- " Azeeeeeeeeeeen! Guest guest
Yikes!! I gained a little bit of weight since my referral. At orientation I weighted more than at my referral date (not by a ton but a couple more lbs). I'm having it at SSF. Actually come to think of it, I was told to lose just 10lbs instead of 10%. I'm sure that was documented when I met with Dr. Stiles. Would it be weird if I called them to confirm how much they'd like me to lose? I wish the booklet had some info about the actual program like logistrics of each tracks and what's expected. Thanks all, a. > >Hey All, > > > >I'm sure this has been discussed a 100 million zillion times but let's > >revisit this age old question...When does the 10% cound??? 10% from > >your orientation date or 10% from your appointment with the surgeon? > >I'm trying to lose but I don't want any surprises - thanks, azin > > > > > > > > > > > >
