Guest guest
While we are on the subject...I just want everyone that hasn't begun the process yet to know that not only are WLS surgeons different, so are their requirements for a psych evaluation. Even though my surgeon required a psych eval (I used her staff psych) I found the appointment to be nothing more than a simple question and answer period with no written tests or complex questionnaires. It was a short meeting (50 minutes) that basically covered my eating style, lifestyle and eating habits. My opinion is that he was screening for any major depressions or issues that may require counseling before or after surgery and to make sure that I knew that compliance with having regular bloodwork testing, taking my vitamins and eating protein is absolutely essential to my well being. Do I think that I needed to see this doctor? My answer is No but I am sure that if someone was for example a binger or purger or had other issues, it would save them from alot of problems after surgery. My surgeon told me that the eval was recommended (required?) for all bariatric surgical patients. Jane J.
