Guest guest
In regards to putting money into a child's account under the childs' name: A while back I was having a discussion somewhere, can't remember where, but basically the jist was that if you put funds into an account under your childs' name, or make the child the beneficiary of monies and the state becomes responsible for your child, the STATE has the right to the money, NOT your child. This may not be completely accurate, I'll have to dig out the specifics of this conversation, or if anyone could chime in..... I've told my mother NOT to put anything in Jacqui's name just in case she someday, god forbid, becomes a ward of the state. Penny Re: need advice Sissi Sometimes is in " studies " at local children's hospitals. I only put her in things that there is no risk and that will help someone else's kids. I put all the money into her own savings account. If I were you I would take anything you could be paid for and put it all away for Boone when he's older. That's just me. Hugs I know you will make the right decision.

Guest guest
Thanks, Penny. This is definitely something to look into. I guess we should all know the facts about this kind of stuff. Guest guest
Hi everyone, My 11 year old son was just diagnosed with Crohns. The doctor put him on Pentasa last week. I have spent the last week reading and learning about the SCD diet, and we are now organized to start it this weekend. Yesterday, we had an appointment with the doc. As he now ways only about 56 pounds at 11 yeard old, the doctor wants to jump right into Prednisone to reduce the inflammation. I told him that we are going to try this diet first. Am I making the right decision here, or should he go on Prednisone to jumpstart the whole process? He is at a critical stage right now, where his body wants and needs to grow, or else he will be small forever. I know I have to get his intestines healed before he can get the necessary nutrients frome the food. Anyone been through this, or any thoughts? Thank You
Guest guest
I think you will get different opinions here- but this is my perspective. Elaine developed this diet to help her child- and it is her advice to stay on medication. Some people, after being on this diet and having no symptoms for a long time- have stopped medication. There are some parents on here whose children are med free. I hope they will post how long into the diet they made their decision to stop meds. The diet is not an instant cure- and it takes time for the gut to heal. IMHO- I would use the prednisone to get things under control while starting the diet. Once he feels well and is gaining weight- then you can decide about it. Others here may offer more advice, or different advice, but the diet is not a diet vs meds issue- you can use both if that's what it takes to recover. I hope he feels better soon, PJ > > Hi everyone, > > My 11 year old son was just diagnosed with Crohns. The doctor put him on Pentasa last week. Guest guest
I agree with Mara (in another post), the pecanbread group should be very helpful to you. But I have to disagree with PJ regarding prednisone. Yes, Elaine’s advice was to stay on medication as necessary. But your son hasn’t taken prednisone. And taking prednisone and turn into a years’-long vicious cycle in itself (I know; it happened to me; I’ve had Crohn’s for 30 years.) My view is that your instinct not to start the prednisone but to try the diet first is a good one. (If you go with any drug, you might want to consider LDN for your son. It works for children as well as adults, and will help his body regulate his immune system; he could just take less than the 4.5 mg that is the normal adult dose. But you’d need to find a doctor willing to prescribe it, which might be a challenge.) I wish you – and him – well. n From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of smdsmom2008 Sent: Friday, August 28, 2009 10:31 AM To: BTVC-SCD Subject: Re: Need Advice I think you will get different opinions here- but this is my perspective. I can't go to the dentist who replaced the dentist who left because he is not in the office on Mondays or Fridays--the days I have for sure rides. So today I was looking through the phone book at the listings for dentists. And I found out my old, old dentist (Dr. R) has opened a new practice! He had sold his practice in town years and years ago and was volunteering his services at the county jail. But now he is back! That sounds like it should be an easy decision but here's my current dilemma. Dr. R is the nicest dentist I've ever met, the most compassionate, the kindest dentist ever. The problem is he is not the BEST dentist. In fact his work is well known to be a little substandard. But I know he would not hurt me. With the TN and the MS it is always a problem to see a dentist, you know. What should I do? If intricate procedures required maybe more thought and better dentist.....I also detest the dendist. Best wishws, Tom Bayuk need advice I wrote about my problem with the dentist leaving. Guest guest
I’d go to the one who knows you best. Coming from a dentalphobic who needs work done extensively, but hasn’t found anyone she can trust to treat me nice.
