Guest guest
I began diet two weeks ago and am doing well. I first had symptoms last year and am now 34 years old. I think I have a pretty mild case and this summer was another flare due to stress...anyway, I was on meds for 5 wks cleared up and now meds free for 1 month and doing well. I was advised not to start SCD diet so strictly since I am not currently having any symptoms and can tolerate most foods, but am wondering if theres any big no nos to stay away from? I think I'll stay away from cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and whole nuts as well as beans. Any other recommendations? I really hope I don't have to stay away from raw fruits and veggis because I really rely on those as snacks to get through the day. Any advice? Also, how soon should I know its working? I definitely haven't felt any stomach tenderness since I'm on it, which I felt slightly before...Thanx I'd appreciate anyones input on this area I'm so new at all this
Guest guest
Hi Becky- I don't know what you mean by strict, but as far as the diet is concerned, illegals are illegal, no matter how mild or severe symptoms are. Many people can tolerate raw fruits and vegetables- legal ones are legal cooked or raw, but many start out with cooked. There is a benefit to starting with the intro diet- the beginning of the starvation of the bad bacteria starts with this. You don't have to stay on it for long- 1-2 days. Then people tend to advance according to the stages on Pecanbread.com. There is no fixed rule for how quickly to advance, but many people have difficulty using advanced foods too soon. As a general rule- " slow and steady wins the race " . It's great that you feel well in general, but you will be glad you did the diet " by the book " . You can advance to raw foods as tolerated. Welcome, and here's to your health! PJ > > I began diet two weeks ago and am doing well. I first had symptoms last year and am now 34 years old. Guest guest
Welcome Becky, It would be helpful to know what your dx is and what symptoms you are experiencing. There is not enough information for any of us to make recommendations other than to say follow the SCD fanatically Thanks! Guest guest
If I was you I would stay away from all processed foods, and foods with sugar. The diet will help you more if you follow it even though you may not have active symptoms. Don " t think of it as something just for bad times, our systems need all the help they can get and if you have had flares, that does not mean you have no disease, it can still be there just not very active.(unless you have a biopsy showing it has cleared).
