When I quit (5 packs a day) I did it cold turkey as well. I had quit unsuccessfully countless numbers of times, once for three years. I made up my mind that I was going to begin considering myself a non-smoker who had been smoking for years rather than a smoker who had just quit. It worked. After a few months I no longer even had any cravings. I won't say it was easy. It was maybe the toughest thing I ever did. But I did it. The hardest times were right after waking up in the morning and after meals. I chewed a lot of gum. That was 19 years ago and Nickorette (sp?) wasn't available then. The idea of a week of Wellbutrin in combination with the patch sounds pretty good but I can tell you that someone who is really addicted CAN quit.

Regards.

Re: Quitting Smoking

When I quit I did it cold turkey. No gum or anything and I found that what I missed most was the "fresh air breaks" I would take. What I did was still take them but instead of smoking I would grab a nice cold water. I had something in my hand and in my mouth and it was all healthy! Kind of corny, I know and I know it won't work for everyone but its just a hint I used. Jodie
