Guest guest
Hi ya! When I was out 6 weeks with my hysterectomy I took vacation time and state disability-- the state doesn't care if you are using vacation time and will pay for the whole time. So I was on vacation for 4 weeks and unpaid leave for 2 weeks for my job and " on disability " for 6 with the state-- I don't think they pay for time you are on paid sick leave, but I could be wrong. So you can get both your vacation time and disability for the same weeks.. If God forbid should you have complications recovery could take a long time, run out of sick/vacation and have no other money coming in. Besides why use up your vacation if you don't have to. Guest guest
Marilyn--I'm also in California. When you file for disability, there is a one week waiting period before they start to pay. For that period, I took 5 days of vacation pay (PTO). The rest of my time out- -6 weeks total, then back to work part-time for 2 weeks--was covered by disability. Because of my length of service with my company, they paid the remaining portion of my salary that was not covered by disability--and would have done so for up to 19 weeks. Not a bad deal! Why waste all the hard-earned vacation time if you don't have to? You've paid into disability all along, and are entitled to it. Your employer cannot ask you to use vacation time instead. Check with your HR dept. or benefits administrator for more info. I was able to find out ahead of time how much the state would pay, and that my employer would pay the rest. And because the state disablity payment is not taxed, I actually came out ahead on my take-home pay for that period of time I was off. Sweet deal! Good luck! Guest guest
Hello, my name is A.V. Vickers I work for the state of California and have similar interest in taking sick leave/vacation versus disability. Can you tell me what might be the benefits of disability and how will your job go for it. Don't they want you to use all your available time? I'M not sure how to go about this diplomatically, my supervisor is a worry wart and tries to do tooo much by the book to the point of being obsessive. Do you have any feedback? Thanx
Guest guest
Hi , this A. V. Vickers I met you about a month ago. How are you doing? I am in the process of gaining clearance for Dr. K and wondered also about the disability. I am a state employee, do you know if I can get NDI and State California Disability Insurance. I'm reluctant to ask at work right now because they get all bent out of shape about that kinda stuff. Any feedback? Oh! Have you heard from . Last I saw her she was recovering in the hospital, I e-mailed her but haven't heard. Just thought you might know. Thanx
Guest guest
Marilyn, I am going to have my surgery May 31st in Spain. I live in California and will go on disability. By doing this, I will not use all my sick and vacation time up since disability will cover about half of my take-home pay and then my sick leave will cover the rest. Disability is the way to go (as long as you pay into the state disability--most companies in California do). Hope this helps. Sandy
