Hello and welcome to the group. I am glad that

you made the choice to have this surgery. It is one

of the best things I could have ever done for myself.

I will be thinking of you on your big day and praying

that all goes well for you. Feel free to share as

much as you like here. We have a lot of veterans who

will be able to answer just about any question you

might have. Again, congrats on your choices and I

can't wait to hear about your journey. Take care.

Hi all.

My name is .I'm new to this board and looking forward to

talking with and meeting people who are having or have had the WLS.

I recently went to my first support group at Oakland Kaiser and was

pleasantly surprised how welcoming and supportive the group was.(I

hope I can make more of the meetings...thanks Pasha)

A lil about me...Im 38 yrs old and I work for BART as a train

operator.(no snide remarks please!!) I own a home out in the Central

Valley and have a wonderful and supportive partner of 5yrs, two

crazy Jack dogs and a group of friends that are really great.

I was offered the WLS about three yrs ago but turned it down

because I didnt know enough about it and wanted to do more research

before I agreed on a major surgery like this. Well as you can see I

now agree and my surgery date is July 19th.....this Tuesday!!!

With all that said... as much as everyone is supportive of me I

know that they cant really relate what I will be going through

unless they have experienced the surgery. Hence the reason I am here

and thankfully there is a HERE to come to and ask questions.

Well thats a lil about me for now....wish me luck and say hi if ya

get a chance.

Hi , and welcome to this board. How exciting for you, getting surgery

this soon! To which facility will you go, all the Kaisers are

different. Best of luck to you on what is a lifetime journey, and I won't

make any smart remarks about BART operators as long as all of you keep

doing the great job you're doing! Although I don't live in the Bay Area

anymore--we moved to Sacramento in '91--we rode BART a lot when we lived

there. I always liked the system. Enough chatting, you have come to a

good place for support, lots of good people here. Best to

you, LaWanda At 07:26 AM 7/13/05, you wrote:

Welcome to the group and welcome to the rest of your life. You will

experience things as you never have before. Everything in my life

has changed, but the ride has been grand. Yes, there have been

challenges, but for the first time in my life, I can count on me.

For the first time in my life, I have experienced freedom. Like a

wise woman once said to me, " The price of freedom is dear, but its

fruit is delicious. "

May you experience freedom like never before!

Welcome and congrats on your date ! Who is your surgeon? And

where is your surgery?

I had my surgery 6/28 at Richmond facility with Dr Baggs and he was

fantastic.

Your surgery date is on my birthday! We will have the same Birthday

now! :-)

Keep the questions coming if you have any. I was really nervous the

last few days before my surgery and the wonderful people here helped

me alot!

Sounds like you have a great support system and that will help you so

much during recovery!

Best of luck to you!

LOL, I was almost certain I was sitting next to a

. You were very friendly, it was nice having you

closeby, as I didn't bring my own support person! So,

how are you doing? I assume you have lost your ten

percent, since you are scheduled! Excited? I was soo

nervous...about the fleets junk, about getting there

and being above goal and being sent home. I guess i

worry too much. I can say that now that it's behind

me.

Let's see...what would you like to know? The nurses

on the floor aren't the best. You have to tell them

you want to get up and start walking. Don't wait for

them. They might ask you to get up the first time,

but don't count on any reminders after that. Just get

up and go. Well, before you get your catheter out,

you will have to buzz them and ask for help. After

that, it's pretty manageable alone. Oh yeah. Expect

pain. Even with the drugs. But it's only bad for the

first day. Then it's moderate, now it's mild...

Anything else? Just ask!
