Guest guest
Hi all, Last week, I posted on here an embarrassing situation where I was in a mall and needed to find a restroom ASAP. There was a language barrier with me and a woman who was occupying all of the bathrooms - here kids were sort of playing in them. I did in fact have an accident, but was helped by a kind stranger. I decided to reflect on how I could better handle this situation in the future. I have two tools to offer up. 1)I am not sure in other states, but here in Oregon, Ulcerative Colitis and other digestive issues are labeled as conditions in which you can have a doctor sign off on a form that will allow for a handicapped parking permit. The permit here last for something like 12 years (probably varies from state to state) - there are times when I do not need of course, but certainly would have come in handy on at least eight occasions that I can recall over the last year. You can take the permit of and on the rearview mirror so you can use when really need. 2) Im this area we Spanish and Russian speaking populations that are large in certain pockets of the state. I created a little translation card and thought I would pass along to you all. It is my intention to have a couple of these cards avail for me in my purse and car etc so I can use when needed. I think it also helpful if standing in a line, to give someone a card than verbalize my condition in a frantic moment - in my haste I may not explain myself as clear - I also think a preprinted card drives home that I am not just trying to cut in line. I think I might add a red cross in the background of my card, as people identify with that as being a first aid or medical symbol. If not obvious the first translation is English, then Spanish, then Russian... I have a digestive medical condition that creates bathroom urgency. - May I please bypass you in line - Use your bathroom facilities …so that I may avoid an embarrassing situation. Thank you for your help! Yo tengo un problema digestive que me hace ir al bano con urgencia. Puedo pasar al bano primero que usted?
