Guest guest
Hi Holly, I recently started S.boulardii and the only symptom I have noticed is several hours after taking it my tongue feels very odd. The top of my tongue makes itself known – it kind of stings. I can tell something is going on (but I don’t know what). I am assuming it’s die off. I think I will try taking it at night before bed so I don’t have to feel this tingling weirdness on my tongue. I take 1/day. I am not sure what is causing your stomach ache. When I ate some dried fruit without drinking enough water with it last week – that gave me a stomach ache. It resolved when I drank a big glass of water. Die off symptoms seem to be very specific for everybody – I guess it depends on where in the body the beasties are lurking. It’s like a giant battle is being waged within us! Carol CD 21 yrs SCD 5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of spookyhurst Yesterday morning, I took 1/2 a capsule of s. boulardii for the first time. The brand is Nutricology. Last night, I had a stomach ache that was a cross between a sort sour feeling, to a sort of gnawing feeling. When I woke up this morning, it was gone. I decided to skip taking the s. boulardii today, but got the same stomach ache late this afternoon. It's currently gone, but now I have this weird feeling in my noise, kind of like I caught a whiff of ammonia. Has anyone heard of s. boulardii causing these side effects? Or is it more likely my body has just decided to weird out on me? Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 ,_._,___
Guest guest
Carol, It kind of sounds like you might have an allergy to s boulardii. Whenever something makes your mouth feel tingly and weird, it's a possibility. I tried taking 1/2 pill again yesterday. No stomach aches, but I'm still getting that ammonia like smell in my nose periodically. I'll have to experiment further to see if it's related to the s boulardii. Weirdness. Guest guest
Holly, Maybe that is the smell of bacterial die off. Isn’t ammonia a byproduct of bad bacteria? Or yeasts? I am slowing up on the s. boulardii. I did start taking lauricidin ¼ tsp 3x/day. It’s like putting Styrofoam on your tongue. My tongue is still tingly at times. Weirdness indeed. If you have a reaction, you won't know what caused it. (It's like introducing too many new foods at once. You don't know which one you reacted to.) Also, be aware that although s. boulardii is a friendly yeast, it's still a yeast, and therefore, lauricidin will kill it off. Likewise, lauricidin will kill off the good bacteria in your yogurt or your probiotic capsules. So they need to be taken several hours apart. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
