When I went for my surgery, I took a wooden spoon and baby wipes, to use as a "wiper". However, I didnt end up needing it at all. I had no problems reaching. Dont spend money unneccesarily, you may or may not need it. I now have a new wooden spoon for my kitchen!

Good luck with your surgery, you will do fine.

,

I hope you get positive responses to this because I love my family

but there's NO WAY I could deal with any one of them wiping my butt

or let alone a stranger! *grins* I'm hoping the toilet aid will work

for me and I can do it myself! *crosses fingers*

I actually just posted something about this last night on another list.

Let me re-paste it.

I was pondering this evening - things that might be helpful with my

immediate post-op life. And I had a small brainstorm when I was reading

over posts where people spoke of using wooden spoons to help deal with bowel

movements in the early days post-op. Has anyone ever tried a bidet?

I'm not sure what made me think of it, but I would think that would make

life a bit easier for the rear-end-wipe-impaired. I peeked around the net

and found a few very basic models that can go on an existing toilet, that

were not very expensive. I'm curious if anyone has given this a shot

before...?

As a pre-op I had no problem reaching myself to wipe. As a post-op it was

initially impossible. I told my husband that I felt like someone cut my arms

off at the elbow at then re-attached my hands.

I really did not think I would need any assistance prior to surgery, but

THANK GOD that I read a posting right before I left for surgery. This person

suggested getting curved salad tongs and a box of Kleenex Cottonelle

Flushable wipes. I happened to be in a store doing last minute shopping and

I ended up in the kitchen aisle where I spotted the curved salad tongs. They

were about $2.00, so I thought I would get them even though I was SURE I

wouldn't need them. They were a life saver.

You just pinch a little of the middle of a Cottonelle (I actually used 2 at a

time) and then you can wipe and release and the Cottonelle falls into the

toilet. I read about some people wrapping toilet paper around a wooden

spoon, but I don't want to know how they eventually got the TP off the

spoon!!! :) I kept a bag (like an over sized purse) near my bed with my

tongs in a ziploc bag and the Cottonelles in there. No one ever knew my

secret!

The Cottonelle's are not that expensive and really save you from have a very

sore behind. Your initial BM's are like mustard baby poop (I know it is

gross!) and your bottom can get very sore if you are having 6 BM's a day.

Well, enough BM talk from me! I am happy to answer any questions on the list

or privately. My e-mail is posatitude@... This surgery is the best

thing I ever did in my life and I have never regretted it for a minute!
