yeah - it applies to everyone. but obviously in some cases

cooked pureed carrot and add in peeled and cooked

and deseeded pureed zucchini cooked/pureed spinach and well

ripe banana, raw or cooked.

You can use butter, oils and coconut oil.

It will feel like you're eating baby food for a while, but it helps

the gut take a break. And will start rebalancing the gut ecology.

You may find that eating things balanced with protein and fat that your

Why not give us a list of SCD legal foods you think you can tolerate.

Then we can look at it and make recommendations as to the easiest to

Hi --

I did not do the intro when I started out 1 year ago on SCD. I didn't even know this list existed.

I googled 'diet for UC' and found BTVC. I read the book, ordered the yogurt maker and dug in. ( BTW if you can't do dairy, then you should consider supp with S. Boulardii and acidophilus. I did not have D--just bleeding was my presenting symptom. I did have D later on the diet when I would add something that was too advanced foe me--it has been raw veggies, including tomatoes.

I had farmer cheese or eggs for breakfast and made chopped hamburg with garlic and zucchini in the beginning. I was able to do blueberries with the yogurt with honey. I ate any meat with cooked veggies and was very happy. What I found hard and exasperating was finding sugar and starch on every label like my garlic powder. When I finally found this list, it helped me to identify illegals and find legal substitutes much faster than if I had been on my own.

Not everyone has to do the intro outlined in the book, but has to adhere to the principle of letting the gut rest, changing the gut ecology and watching, as you go along ,your progress and tweaking. Most important ,no illegals.

If all you can do is fruit in the am-then do fruit in the am, but cook it in the beginning.

With 3 feet extra of bowel ( WOW), I would think that C is more of a problem and you do need to eat well cooked carrot and peeled, deseeded cooked zucchini. Also cooked spinach and chard are very easy to digest at the beginning. There is no right or wrong--you have to do what works for you.

D is defined not just by consistency, but by frequency--so you qualify. The idea is to decrease the amount od times you go and to not have pain.

The one most important thing I find as I heal and I can eat more things (legal) is the more yogurt I eat on a given day, the better my bowels are. I did not notice this when I started. Since you can't do dairy (why?) you will need to find legal probiotic supplements that others on this list know better than I. I believe they are the key to doing very well on this diet.

So, I hoped all this rambling helped--I don't think that you have to do the intro if it's going to make you feel worse. You will evolve on this diet and get to what works for you.

Best of luck,

2-5 days. If you are feeling much better already - then 2 days should

be

sufficient - and then slowly begin introducing new items - every 2-3

days, to

make sure you have no reaction to the new thing.

I learned in the first month on SCD that my body doesn't tolerate most of the intro. diet food suggestions, so I substituted with foods that my own body tolerated the best when I was in a symptom flare. The point of the intro. diet is to eat very easy-to-digest foods (and also permitted on SCD), generally soft and liquid.

I can tell you what foods I eat, but you will probably need to do your own experimenting, as I can't handle the few foods you mention you are eating now, and can't touch fruit by itself and not until 3 pm. In the mornings I can't eat much except proteins (or it comes right back up....). So we're different. But I'm also hypoglycemic, so have to be careful with the kinds of foods I eat and when I eat them. And I cope with chronic constipation due to poor digestive motility because of upper GI dysfunctions, but I have found that nothing much helps in that regard if I'm symptomatic and needing the intro. diet for a day or two anyway.

Remember that the purpose of the intro. diet is to give your digestion time to calm down if it is symptomatic -- to give your digestion foods that are very easy to digest. You only need stay on the intro. diet for two to three days.

I generally start off with a day or two of clear liquids to get my upper GI symptoms back down to bearable levels. Then I move into my version of the intro. diet. Which is baked chicken (white meat only), scrambled eggs, cooked Italian or Roma green beans, applesauce, and diluted apple juice. Gelatin is iffy for me, so I include that if my upper GI is less symptomatic, otherwise don't touch it. I can have one or two servings of a chicken or turkey broth but have to limit that as I've developed a sensitivity (long story). I drink plenty of water, and if my stomach is behaving, one cup of very weak tea per day.

When I'm on my version of the intro. diet I eat frequently, something every 2 hours, from 8 or 9 am until 7 pm. Depends on how symptomatic I am, and if I have to work, and so on. But I make sure I eat small meals or snacks frequently.

You'll have to adjust your intro. diet to the foods your body tolerates best. Just stick to soft and easy-to-digest foods, and after a day or two, start adding in foods very slowly.

For constipation I use Miralax daily, plus I supplement with magnesium. I can't eat more than 2 servings of fruit per day, one serving of which is a diluted juice, so I have to use Miralax and extra magnesium (which I am low in anyway). During my first two years on SCD my constipation would worsen at times even though I continued to do the same things. I decided it was part of the healing process. When I hit year 3 my digestion stabilized and now my constipation doesn't flare unless I try a "new" food that isn't tolerated.

Hi , There is a good illegal supplements list at

PecanBread.com You want to avoid hidden starches and sugars. I use Freeda

Vitamins. They are SCD compliant. Lucy at LucysKitchenShop.com (you have to

call to order) carries them, as do a number of other sites.

I mistakenly ingested illegals in my supplements for years. So

check labels carefully. Or go with an SCD compliant brand.

I've figure out a scheme to start making a list/spreadsheet with the

supplements I take, ingredients, phone numbers and addresses and start

contacting them all to get exact ingredients so I'll get started on that today.

Depends on the person. When I started SCD, back in 2001, fruit smoothies

were all the rage -- usually a couple cups of fruit and some honey, with

a cup of SCD yogurt.

I turned somewhat green at the thought -- if I had tried to drink a

smoothie like that in the morning, I'd've had rampaging diarrhea within a

couple of hours. I tolerated almost no fruit at the beginning, with the

exception of small amounts of Tropicana pulpless OJ. In fact, it's only

been in the last couple of years that I've tolerated more than a half-cup

of any kind of fruit per day.

OTOH, I tolerate a level of fat in my diet that makes people like Kim M

turn green at the thought. In fact, my body NEEDS that fat -- I start

feeling ill without it.

So, everyone is different.

I can remember people asking Elaine why she didn't include day by day

menus for SCD in the book because it was so confusing to figure out what

to eat. Her answer was that because everyone was different, it would be

impossible to include menus, because what worked for one person would not

work for another.
