Part of what makes the RNY surgery work is that we no longer absorb

everything. This is because part of the intestine has been bypassed.

There are certain areas in the small intestine and the duodenum where

certain nutrients get absorbed, including fat. This means that, for me,

I no longer worry about the fat content of foods, because I KNOW I

malabsorb part if not most of it. How can I tell? For one thing, my hair

and skin are no longer greasy, they're dry. For me, fat also satisfies

me, causing me to actually eat LESS. I've also noticed that when food

manufacturers take fat out of something, they tend to add something else

in, usually sugar or simple carbs. Those I don't malabsorb.

Unfortunately, absorbtion of sugar starts in the MOUTH.

The " grey ghostie " look is the look some post-op patients get when they

do not eat right and their body isn't getting enough protein. They look

grey and sick, even if they are at a " normal " weight. In some cases,

they look like chemo patients. I personally do not want that to happen

to me. I had the surgery not just to look good (although I think I do

look pretty good at this point) but to be healthy. That isn't going to

happen if my body is stealing protein from my muscles, including my

HEART, or calcium from my bones.

So yeah, I'm a bigmouth, kinda militant. I also believe that I have to

do my best to educate myself on what my body needs. If my doctor gives

me the wrong advice, and I blindly follow it, the doc isn't going to be

the one with neurological damage from B deficiencies, or heart damage,

or osteoporosis, I am! While I'm at it, if some information nugget I

share happens to help someone else avoid the same fates, so much the better!
