Guest guest
DH loves ice cream but is not too fond of the taste of yogurt. The few times I tried making him SCD ice cream in the past it tasted too yogurty for him. So I'm hoping I just picked a bad recipe (don't ask me which one it was - it was years ago). I'm looking for your favorite ice cream recipes - one that you think tastes most like the real thing and not so much like yogurt. Thanks so much! Guest guest
Hi Devorah, Another recipe what I like it so much is vanila ice cream from nomorecrohns site: http://nomorecrohns.com/Documents/VanillaIceCream.pdf You also will find there a lot of wonderfull recipes. There is a tip what Marlyn give it to us some time ago: dripping the yougurt before you will use it for the ice cream. And I could tell you the ice cream is much more tasteful like this, doesn't matter wich recipe you will use it. I adapt this recipe and I use it instead of vanilla extract, all the liquid I could drip it from 300 g of rasberry (I could not accept the seeds). It is so delicious! The ice cream is usually my last meal of the day, so I eat a lot of it! Good luck and I hope you will find a recipe for your husband! Guest guest
I love the vanilla ice cream from that site! I make 1/2 and 1/2 yogurt, and then drip it. That gets rid of all the yogurt " tang " . I've also subbed peppermint extract for vanilla on occasion. Guest guest
Devorah, I know EXACTLY how your hubby feels! I cannot eat yogurt. I just can't. Even thinking about it makes me feel queasy. I tried those egg ice cream recipes and they're fine when they're frozen but once they start to melt they get *really* " eggy. " and it grosses me out. So I found a couple recipes for ice cream that I really like. One uses coconut so I won't list that since there's a debate about it (but for the record I've never had any reaction to it). One I tried today was from Elena's Pantry: http://www.elanaspantry.com/vegan-vanilla-ice-cream/ I just replaced the agave with honey and I added a little peppermint extract. Super yummy! It's drained yogurt made from full cream. If you don't have a double boiler, use a heavy-bottomed pan, and heat on low heat, stirring constantly to be sure it doesn't stick or burn. I consider a large double boiler an indispensable tool for SCD cooking. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
I've tried several different ice cream recipes but also wasn't crazy about the yogurt tanginess. My favorite has turned out to be either strawberry or cherry ice cream. 2 cups heavy cream yogurt, not dripped 1 cup thawed frozen strawberries or dark cherries 1/2 cup honey 1 t. vanilla Blend all ingredients together in a blender. Pour mixture into ice cream maker and freeze per ice cream maker instructions. For me, using whole cream combined with the fruit flavors and honey effectively eliminate the tartness of the yogurt. Guest guest
You can create your own double boiler by putting a pan with water in it on the stove and then rest a bowl on top of it during cooking. I've never used a real one but this method works just fine for me (cheaper too!)
