Guest guest
All of mine were off before I had my 2 week checkup. In fact, the outer stuff was off within a couple of days and then the steri strips started after that. By probably 1 to 1-1/2 weeks out, all the steri strips were off (they were annoying me and irritating my skin so I " helped " them along). Guest guest
Thanks Tina for your reply! I will shower then and pat them dry and relax. :-) How are you feeling today by the way? Is food staying with you better now? Have you been trying dairy products like cheese? Guest guest
I actually do really well with dairy products. No problems what-so- ever. I have about 8-10 ounces of FF milk every 3-4 days. I can't seem to tolerate chicken breast anymore. Someone suggested trying chicken thighs instead so I'll be trying those. We are going camping this weekend so I'll be bringing my protein drinks and taco meat and refried beans and cheese with me. How are you doing? Guest guest
Don't worry, you're okay. Go ahead and shower and don't be afraid to do it. When I left the hospital, in Fremont, Doctor Dutta told me to shower and not to worry about the steri strips. He said they would come off by themselves, and I think that all of mine fell off within the first two weeks post-op. When I went in for my two week visit, which I was a week late doing because I had a horrible cold that I caught from my husband, the incision by my navel was infected and nasty looking. The doctor just put stuff on it and put more steri strips on it and told me to treat it just as I would treat any other cut--i.e. keep it clean and use antibiotic cream. I did that and there was no problem. A further word, if you are still worried about the strips, remember that you can get more at the drugstore and can always replace them if they fall off. Guest guest
Thanks for asking Tina. I am still on Stage II but on Sat I get to try the new foods in Stage III. I am a little scared about what to try first. I did try yogurt on stage II and that didn't taste good to me at all. I want to try cheese, but I don't know if I should try that first since Yogurt didn't go over well? When you say cheese, are you referring to the low fat mozzerella? Have you tried tofu? How are you with eggs? Hard boiled vs scrambled? I really want to try bay shrimp and prawns as well. I love chicken so much, I wonder what it is about chicken that makes it so intolerable? I have heard many times it just doesn't work anymore. :-( Sounds like you have a good set up for camping! Where are you going? Camping is so much fun! Guest guest
Thanks for the tip LaWanda! I will see what those incisions look like under the strips. If I need to I can replace them then! I feel SO much better now! Can't wait to get home and shower now! You know, I had a pimple type thing that got infected just a day ago and I bet that is because all my energy is going to healing my wounds. It turned almost boilish right at my bra line, of course, so it was driving me nuts. I used some anti cream on that and it is already better. How are you tolerating your foods now that you are a ways out from surgery? Anything that isn't working out anymore? Guest guest
Hi Kay, Before they released me, somebody from the Bariatric office met with me and gave me an information sheet. She also told me not to worry about the dermathingies that covered the gauze. To shower, and let them come off as they do. She said the steri-strips would come off by themselves and not to worry about them either.. Guest guest
I started with eggs when I went to Stage III. The first couple of times I had them, they were fine. Then suddenly they wouldn't sit well. I'd feel really sick. Finally I quit trying to eat them. I've had a deviled egg since then and it was okay. Thought I'd try scrambled again...NO GOOD! Don't know. Weird! I'm not a tofu person. I did the thinly sliced deli meat and cheese. I've done low fat versions and regular versions. Some of the lower fat versions (like the " lite " string cheese) are too dry and I don't tolerate them. Yogurt I got sick on when I was on stage II so I generally don't eat much of that. Refried beans with cheese on them were yummy (and still are). Ground beef (as long as there is seasonings in it) is really good. Just remember to CHEW CHEW CHEW and then CHEW some more. AND don't push yourself. If you can't eat the 1/4 cup like they suggest (2 oz.), just throw it away. If you eat too much, your pouch will let you know immediately! We are going to Pacifica, CA for camping tis weekend. Escaping the 107 degree Sacramento weather and heading to cooler 78 degree weather right on the beach. Yeah! Good luck and let me know how Stage III starts for you. Keep up the good work. Guest guest
I hear you on the carbs! I lived by those. I went by Safeway the other day and smelled the fresh bread baking and it smelled so good. BUT interestingly enough, I didn't then get a feeling that I wanted it, like I used to when I would smell the bread. I am sure I will get those cravings again when I am further out though. That will be a struggle for another day I suppose. I tried some yogurt again last night. Just a spoonfull. But it seemed my pouch didn't mind it this time. I am just so excited and scared to try eggs tomorrow and deli meat. Maybe tofu. I don't know. Having more options all of a sudden seems a scary thing... Have a good day! Thanks for sharing your experiences with me! Makes me feel so much better to know I am not in this alone.
