Guest guest
Welcome, Amy! My name is and I had the lap DS done on 2/28/01 by Dr. in Atlanta, GA. I live in Illinois, so I traveled quite a way for the DS. Only the RNY is done in Illinois. It was also important to me to have it done lap, but others don't mind open. I feel really blessed that I had a great experience. I had surgery on a Wednesday and was released on Saturday. I flew back home the next Wednesday. I had some nausea right after surgery and asked them to take me off of the pain medication. That did the trick. I had pain when I had to get out of bed, but considering I was on no pain med's, I think I did pretty well. Recuperation consisted of sleeping a lot and trying to get in what protein I could. Today it is 10 weeks since my surgery. I am 5'4 and had a pre-op weight of 284. I have lost 50 pounds as of today! I am just delighted. I am really back to my old self now and have more energy than I did as a pre-op. I would say the strangest thing (and best thing) I have experienced since surgery is that that my relationship with food has changed. I used food as a comfort and as a reward. Immediately post-op food tasted bad (I had thrush). Even though my taste buds have gone back to normal, food just does not taste as good as it used it. It doesn't taste BAD, but it is like a switch was flipped in me (no pun intended) and I just eat to live now instead of living to eat. I had ribs over the weekend and they were good, but I just wanted a little and if I would have tried to eat more, I would have been really turned off by them. It is a great feeling to not be obsessed with food anymore. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them! in IL Dr. Lap DS 2/28/01 -50 pounds in 10 weeks In a message dated 5/8/2001 2:03:08 PM Central Daylight Time, mywls@... writes: << Hello. My name is Amy. I am 30 yrs old, weigh around 280 at 5 ft 8 inches and have a BMI of 43. I am scheduled for my first consultation with Dr. Elariny in Arlington, VA on May 21st. I am scared, nervous and excited all at the same time. Is there anyone that is going through the same thoughts and fears? I would love to hear from you and I would love to hear from someone that has already gone through the procedure and can let me in on some of the things that I can expect afterwards. >>
