Ellen,

I had a similar thing happen to me. I had the nice thin scar and

about 2 months out about it just widened at the top. I thought it was

because of my pants (even though at the time all I wore is stretch).

I tried the vitamen E and all nothing really helped. I have another

scar from teenage hood when I fell through a glass window..ooowww,

but it is so white you can't even see it at all. So, I think we just

have to be patient.

> I am 11 weeks after surgery and my scar is changing!

Ellen:

I sent you a response earlier on the USC list, but it's been

down most of the day, so I don't know if my answer will ever

get through.

Two VERY important questions:

Is there any red/pink developing AROUND the scar?

This might look like a rash that doesn't itch, or

it could be distinct lines.

Is the red area warm to the touch, i.e., warmer

then the surrounding skin?

If the answer to either of these questions is " yes "

PLEASE CALL 1-800-USC-CARE IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE DR.

ANTHONE PAGED, BECAUSE YOU MAY HAVE AN INFECTION IN

YOUR WOUND SITE.

I don't mean to freak you out, it's just that I had

an infection underneath my incision site after my

panniculectomy, and it took two surgical procedures

and eight days in the hospital to clean it out. I

don't want that to happen to you.

Come to think of it, you might want to call Dr. Anthone

anyway, just for safety's sake.

Let us know what happens,

Tom

p.s., If I'm totally off base, I apologize. I

just think it's better to be safe than sorry.

Sounds like you are starting to keloid. Everyone heals differently.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist about a compression gel bandage that

you can stick over your scar to keep it from becoming too raised.

I was thinking that maybe, if its not an infection, that you might get

some Mederma. Its a topical scar-reducing ointment that I was given by

my dermatologist after having some moles removed. You just apply it

twice a day & rub it in gently. The biggest drawback is that its

expensive- like $30-40/tube. The tube would last for months, since

you use a very trace amount. My dermatologist says that as long as the

scar is pink, its still healing. If it is raised, and not infected,

see a dermatologist for kenalog shots- its a mild steroid shot that

reduces raised scars to flat. Between the Mederma & the Kenalog

shots, my mole scars are almost perfectly flat & colorless.

Hope I helped-

Hugs,

Liane

Hello,

I have been a member for a while now I enjoy reading

the posthere, I just finished reading a blurb in a

magazine on this so I thought I might foward it to

those that are interested.I was reading about these

strips that help with healing skin so it doesnt scar

as much (I dont work/or own stock in the company)

Curads Scar Therapy Cosmetic Pads supposedly you apply

every day for 3 weeks and the pressure frome the strip

causes the skin to flatten out and regain normal

coloring its new so I havent used it but thought I

might share the information

Ellen -

Sounds like your scar may be keloiding. Mine did -- and your sounds

similar. There is some gel by Derma E called " Scar Gel " that I got from

GNC. It claims to soften, smooth and help reduce the appearance of scars.

It does seem to work, but I didn't find it until I was much further post-op

than you. It is suppose to work best while the scar is still red -- you

might want to give it a try.

Take good care -
