Guest guest
Question...I haven't really worried about protein & calorie intake since surgery but Rose got me thinking. Does anyone know what the calorie intake and protein amount should be right after surgery? Should I not worry about it? I exercise 1 hour a day 5 days a week and have been since I was 2 weeks out. Dr. Baggs didn't give me any idea on calories or how much protein I should shoot for. I guess I should just call Beth, right? Guest guest
Probably a good idea, but she will probably tell you not to drink protein shakes. From what I am told by others, Richmond feels that you should get all your protein from food. Guest guest
I know Richmond doesn't believe in protein drinks. I don't do them at all. I always eat my calories. I was just curious what other people were eating calorie wise (and protein gram wise) after surgery (early in the game, since I'm only 3 weeks out). Guest guest
I actually just asked my mother this question and she said Gity in SSF says 600 calories is just fine at the 6 month point and on out so right after surgery? Don't know. I know that when I was on stage 2 I was getting about 300 calories a day on a good day. And I was drinking one protein drink (Dr. Baggs and Beth don't read that part). > > >Question...I haven't really worried about protein & calorie intake > > >since surgery but Rose got me thinking. THREE EGGS?!? This was when my pouch was still approximately the size of one egg. At that point, I concluded that when it came to nutritional advice, I'd better look elsewhere. She had also never heard of the concept that we absorb protein differently depending on what form it is in. Don't get me started. Oops, too late! -- Eleanor Oster eleanor@... Guest guest
I'm on another online support group from MSN.com and most of the people there have very successfully had Lap from a hospital in Tampa, FL. They all use the protein shakes and they have a high rate of success. I'm sure that's the most important thing. For whatever reason, and I suppose it's because they want us to try to eat " normally " that the team in Richmond are against protein drinks. I think we must all evaluate for ourselves what the goal is and the best way to achieve it. I'm sure eventually we can get all the protein that we need from food, but Tina is right... it's impossible on new pouches. I see that we hardly get any protein for the first few weeks anyway.
