Guest guest
SO happy for you!!!! I am pre-op so I do not know. I would asume that they would make you wear one of theirs since they will be wanting to check your tummy. Guest guest
Take as little as possible! They will put you into a robe in preparation for surgery. When you regain consciousness, you will have been put into a hospital gown. I'd say go ahead and use theirs! Don't even pack a robe. When it's time for walkies, you can put on a second gown open in the front to cover your hiney. I didn't even take a change of clothes, since I only wore my clothing for probably less than an hour the morning of surgery. I got to the hospital, and promptly had to change into the gown for surgery. Don't bother taking books, work from the office, whatever. For the first couple of days, you will be on good drugs, and you will still have the anesthesia in your system. This will mean that daytime TV will probably be about all you can mentally process. If that. Do take something to moisten your lips. Take a disposable back scratcher in case you need help reaching to wipe after you go potty. Paper and pen or pencil for jotting notes, thoughts, etc. Unless you really need it because you are very well endowed, don't bother with a bra. Slip-on shoes, so you don't have to try to reach to tie or buckle them. Keep it simple. You'll do fine! joyj65 wrote: > I will be having my surgery this Monday at Kaiser in South San > Francisco. Guest guest
Wow, Eleanor! Such good info! Thanks! Those drugs will be perfect for daytime TV. It doesn't take a lot of concentration or anything else to watch it! LOL Is it really going to be that difficult to do my " personal hygiene " ? Sounds weird, but I'll take your advice! Thanks again! Guest guest
Hint, hint -- If you really have problems in the toilet, don't hesitate to call a nurse aide, they can help. It may be embarrasing, but I've seen people (mostly my family) that either couldn't reach (massivly obese) or couldn't coordinate (after a stroke) and the nursing aides helped the patient to the toilet, and that included the paperwork (wiping)! Also, about using your own nightgown, IMHO, why not use the hospital's? You're not there for a fashion show, besides, the hospital gowns are roomy and comfortable, and best of all, the hospital does the laundry! Just take your own clothing, something comfortable, to wear home, or better yet, let your support person hold on to it and bring it to you before you get discharged. Also bring chapstick or lip balm, notepaper & pencil or pen, phone list & calling card, or if you really think you can handle it, your cell phone. Oh, yes, slip on slippers might be OK, but the hospital probably has those slip on " booties " they can put on your feet for you. I took a book to read, and I never got to it. My hubby brought in the newspaper each day (he read it himself, too) and I got to read a little each of the 4 days I was in the hospital. I spent most of my time watching TV, taking my walks and napping. --Sandi > > > Is it really going to be that difficult to do my " personal hygiene " ? > > -- > Eleanor Oster > eleanor@s... Guest guest
They do...but it's a pain to put on. I brought a robe to put over the hospital gown (which is quite ample, I must admit...no Jack Nicholson action going on.) I never put on my other nightgown. Of course, I had LAP, so was in there only overnight... Robynn (from sister Cynde's. Just walked 3 miles in the Cancer Relay for the Cure. Going to take a nap and then do some more tonight if I'm up for it. It's a 24 hour relay...)joyj65 wrote: Hi everyone!I will be having my surgery this Monday at Kaiser in South San Francisco. Guest guest
Good advice, Sandi! I am betting that I won't have trouble in the potty. I don't have a large tummy, so I think I'll be alright. I have heard a lot about lip balm. I will be sure to bring some. I'm just getting a little anxious, but I'll be okay once I get there! Thanks! Guest guest
Dear, just trust in the good lord and the doctors, and you will be fine. OK, call me Pollyanna, but I always just trusted the doctors for the three major surgeries I had, and I came out OK. Our prayers for you won't hurt though. Hugs & smiles to you!
