RE: LDN question

I've been reading about LDN with much interest. Since it's listed as

helping people with CFS, fibromyalgia, and gut troubles, it sounds

like it could be singing my song. I have a few qualms because there

has never yet in my life ever been a medicine that I adjusted to side

effects. If I have them the first day, I have them, same amount, a

year later. But perhaps this could be different or maybe with SCD

after awhile things might be different. I have enough sleep problems

without adding more forever. But I'm still interested.

My main question is this: those of you who use LDN, at what point is

it reasonable to try it? Seems to me right at first maybe isn't, but

hey, I don't know. If not, wait six months or what?

Thanks,

Hi , Why wait to try LDN? I have found the side effects to

be minimal. As I stated in a previous post, I would get a slight headache in

the mornings for the first 2 weeks after starting LDN. But not every day. They

were not even bad enough to take any pain medication and would fade away during

the morning. I started out with 1.5 mg for a week and then upped it to 2 mg and

then finally 3 mg at the 3rd week. I am using the LDN cream from www.CoastalCompounding.com The

maximum dosage is 4.5 mg. But that is for people who weigh 150 pounds or more.

I only weigh 95 pounds, so I take a lower dose. To figure dosage: your weight

in pounds x .03 = mg’s

I generally avoid pharmaceuticals but I do like this drug!

I feel better! People with bowel disease do not produce much endorphins. So to

find this drug that helps the body to produce endorphins and (somehow) aid in

healing was a godsend for me. I’ll trade that for a sleep disturbance any

day! And as I stated in a previous post, the sleep I do experience on LDN is

deep and refreshing, even though dreams are vivid.

Hi , Why wait to try LDN? I have found the side effects to be minimal. I found the initial side effects were totally positive - for a few weeks, I would getnightly bursts of an endorphin high, like a blissed out runners high. Unfortunately, wah!, that stopped after a while. As I stated in a previous post, I would get a slight headache in the mornings for the first 2 weeks after starting LDN. But not every day. They were not even bad enough to take any pain medication and would fade away during the morning. I started out with 1.5 mg for a week and then upped it to 2 mg and then finally 3 mg at the 3rd week. I am using the LDN cream from www.CoastalCompounding.com The maximum dosage is 4.5 mg. But that is for people who weigh 150 pounds or more. No, that's incorrect. It's for people who weigh 105 and more. 100-105 is discretionaryand can go either way depending on how you react to the medicine. But I agree that if you are very sensitive to medicine to start with a very lowdose. I only weigh 95 pounds, so I take a lower dose. To figure dosage: your weight in pounds x .03 = mg’sI generally avoid pharmaceuticals but I do like this drug! I feel better! People with bowel disease do not produce much endorphins. And as I stated in a previous post, the sleep I do experience on LDN is deep and refreshing, even though dreams are vivid.I know someone else who is on it for Parkinsons and she is convinced it's like a sleepingpill - no vivid dreaming and she sleeps much better on it. So, everyone is unique. Mara

Thank you Mara for that clarification re dosage. You are correct

about everyone being different and having different responses. The hardest part

for me is trying to stay awake til 9 PM to take the LDN!

Thanks ladies. I had just wondered if there was any contraindication to

taking LDN while working into SCD. It sounds like there is not, no

interference or anything. Guess I'm about ready to call my

doctor!

The opposite. For LDN to function, it specifically needs a dietlike SCD - no sugar, no gluten, no lactose. So they work great together. MaraThanks ladies. I'm already on the diet. 27 years of trial and error had me legal

except for rice (from the IBS diet which otherwise was good for

me). That's good to know about LDN, thanks.

  • 3 weeks later...

I felt good right away on LDN. It is reported to take up to 3-4

months for some people to notice a positive difference. I noticed it right

away. I also had a slight headache for about the first 2 weeks of starting.

They were very slight. Also would wake up once or twice a night, and be able to

fall back to sleep easily. Sleep is more restful. And I have more energy.

I finally got it (yay). The first two days I

had a very slight headache that went away. Last night I did not sleep very

well. Otherwise, I've felt fine. How long does it take before you start to

notice a difference- or is it gradual?

Thanks,

PJ

Hi Carol-

Were you on any meds before you started LDN and if you were, did you just stop those and start LDN? My husband with CD has a colonoscopy scheduled in October and we have talked to his GI about starting LDN. He has said we could discuss it after we see the results of the colonoscopy and I just want to have my information straight. Thank you, Heidi
