Guest guest
Sorry to ask again, but as there were no answer - and I'm not sure what to do.., would you recommend to go on with taking grapefruit seed extract? I would appreciate every help. The doctor I spoke today with about the whole thing still thinks it's just a virus that a lot of people do have problems with now and told me not to worry as long as the fever would not rise again (it's no more fever luckily, but still high temperature 37,6)C ... but the idea of Candida overgrowth, you can only find here at some naturopaths at all... > > As I wasn't able to decrease my number of BM an move on from the Intro Diet (CD diagnosed 2007, SCD startet June 5th), I wanted to try to defend candida without being sure if I really have overgrowth - I cant get candida tests here... > > I'm already on a diet that would help against candida, and i'm already taking probiotics prescribed from my doctor, so I bought grapefruit essential oil in a pharmacy which is recommended for bacterial or yeast overgrowth (The oil, not th pharmacy ;-). I took the recommended dose right away which surely was a mistake. After one and a half day, i had really high fever, and I went to a doctor and did not mention the candida thing as i really did forget it, i thought i was infected by some virus or something .. The doctor told me the same and sent me home as the fever was the only symptom (besides my " normal " crohns problems) > > Anyway, back at home i remembered that i started the grapefruit essential oil and thought the fever could be a die off reaction?? I stopped taking the full dose and reduced to the minimum dose which i plan to increase during the next weeks. I also discovered in the bathroom (sorry for the description) a real weird, sweet smell when i had BM. > > Since Sunday, the fever went down but isn't gone yet and I still cant go to work. Guest guest
Hey.. Dunno your name But I'll attempt to answer your post. > > As I wasn't able to decrease my number of BM an move on from the Intro Diet (CD diagnosed 2007, SCD startet June 5th), I wanted to try to defend candida without being sure if I really have overgrowth - I cant get candida tests here... It is really safe to say that most of us with IBD/IBS have intestinal dysbiosis. Many things go under this umbrella category today of " Candida " but to simplfy just looking at how Elaine mapped out the idea of the vicious cycle in her book it really demonstrates just how we need to get to getting good bacteria back in. Don't worry about too much testing unless your situation really becomes out of hand! There are natural antifungals on the market that people try. But it is best to give the diet a go for a while before trying all the supplements. What are you currently eating? What supplements are you taking? > > I'm already on a diet that would help against candida, and i'm already taking probiotics prescribed from my doctor, so I bought grapefruit essential oil in a pharmacy which is recommended for bacterial or yeast overgrowth (The oil, not th pharmacy ;-). Please provide the name and link so we can see what is in there. Remember Bifidum species is illegal on the SCD. Another thing. Is the Grapefruit seed essential oil you got for ingesting? Or is it essential oil period? I made this mistake with oil of oregano. I bought the essential oil instead of the one we can ingest. Boy did I get sick. I mean horribly ill.. I too had fevers and gut pain and puking my goodness- never do I ever wanna do that to myself again! Also, you are looking for Grapefruit Seed EXTRACT not OIL. So check out what you bought and post the name and link here and we can tell you if it's ok. Natural antifungals/antibacterial can be super duper potent and can cause a whole slew of symptoms. This can happen from taking probitoics too.. As the ecology shifts and bacteria dies our bodies show it.. in odd ways or just increase in our major symptoms. > > Anyway, back at home i remembered that i started the grapefruit essential oil and thought the fever could be a die off reaction?? It is best when you start a product to start with a small amount like an 8th and possibly on rotation to perhaps mitigate extreme reactions. You don't want to push your body. You want to work with it so it can handle the burden of die off. Yeah, BM's smell, color and texture can really change with this stuff. > > Since Sunday, the fever went down but isn't gone yet and I still cant go to work. I would say stick to simple chicken soup and intro foods and maybe make yourself activated charcoal tea. That can help too. Also epsom salt baths help. Take it easy and drink a lot. It took me quite a while bouncing back from the whole essential oil mistake. Jodi

Guest guest
Thank you very much for your answer. My Nickname ist gimlitier :-) > What are you currently eating? Mostly chicken, beef patties, joghurt and almond butter bread. > What supplements are you taking? I do need to take some meds that have illegal supplements and they can't get substituted by legal stuff, I already checked with my pharmacist. As for example Azathioprine which is always combined with lactose or Calcium (I got osteoporosis from prednisone) with sweeteners or starch - you cant get them here without all of this. .. The probiotics prescriebd is called Mutaflor and has only living E.Coli Nissle bacteria. It should be legal as far as I know. > Also, you are looking for Grapefruit Seed EXTRACT not OIL., I do take extract, sorry for confusing the words (Not so easy to translate all that medical stuff ;-) Its called Citroplus and is for ingesting, I also doublechecked with my pharmacist. > It is best when you start a product to start with a small amount like an 8th and possibly on rotation to perhaps mitigate extreme reactions. Elaine didn't want us to worry about illegals in medications. Most of us need to take meds from time to time and many things can't be compounded or it is just too expensive to compound. > The probiotics prescriebd is called Mutaflor and has only living E.Coli Nissle bacteria. It should be legal as far as I know. I used to take Mutaflor. It is a superior product (a doc from Germany prescribed it to me) anyway, sorry to say but Mutaflor is not legal on the SCD. This was discussed a while back on PecanBread. Not only is the bacteria not legal but yes, there are illegal fillers in Mutaflor. Have you tried any SCD approved probiotics? What about S Boulardii? > > Also, you are looking for Grapefruit Seed EXTRACT not OIL., > > I do take extract, sorry for confusing the words (Not so easy to translate all that medical stuff ;-) Sigh of relief that you aren't taking the essential oil I can imagine translation gets challenging.. > Its called Citroplus and is for ingesting, I also doublechecked with my pharmacist. I would stop the GFSE and give it a rest and maybe reintroduce it again in a couple of weeks slowly and methodically. > > I would say stick to simple chicken soup > > That would really cause nausea at the moment... :-) > I'll try to get other simple food instead. Chicken soup does that to me too.. Feel better! Jodi
Guest guest
Dear Kim and Jodi, thank you very much for your answers. Wow - I was so sure that Mutaflor is legal.. But it's prescribed from my doc anyway, so I think I will talk to her and maybe change to S. Boulardii - thanks! About the GSE... I'm not sure if I really will stop it. Yesterday, my temperature did not raise higher then 37,5 C (which is not fever, just a little high temp.) And today, it's perfectly normal . And I do feel a lot better, I also went buying stuff with my bike and was not exhausted at all. So perhaps my doc was right and I was just sick after all... So I consider to go on with the small amount GSE - because even if it was Die off, then the major symptoms seem to have gone and I surely should go on... I'll see how I feel today and tomorrow and make my ecision then . Thank you again - I really appreciate your help!
