Guest guest
, This is the website you should read to become more familiar with LDN. LDN has virtually no side effects, save vivid dreams in the beginning which can be managed by starting with a lower than therapeutic dose in the beginning. I have been doing a lot of research and am very intrigued to try it and have presented it to my GI recently and am awaiting his response once he confers with an associate. http://lowdosenaltrexone.org/ I personally have not found the LDN yahoo group to be helpful, I have learned more from Mara, Jodi and Carol on this list. I think that you might find it helpful for your symptoms. Since it is an opiate receptor antagonist, and it is taken in very small doses, it covers only some of the body's opiate receptors, thereby fooling the body into producing more endorphins which in turn seems to have an extremely positive effect for people with Crohn's, UC, MS, RA, cancer, HIV/AIDs, etc. There is an extremely credible study done by Jill , MD out of U.PA Hershey published in the Journal of Gastroenterology that shows a positive response with LDN on Crohn's. Since any people feel that UC is just another form of Crohn's, it has been shown anecdotally to have value for UC as well. Since I had bilateral breast biopsies done in 07 with a dx of Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia--and a Mom who was a breast CA survivor, the implications of LDN to prevent breast CA for me are also attractive. I think it might help you overall, but esp with regard to your recurrent viral infections. Terry Re: LDN Thanks, I have just joined that group. This is interesting that LDN modulates the immune system, the more so because one of the biggest trouble I'm going to have with supplements is getting rid of my medicinal mushrooms. They seem to be polysaccarides, or at least one I KNOW is so the others probably are. But without them, I have a viral attack 4-5 days every week which is undoubtedly responsibly for a good deal of my total exhaustion. What kind of side effects have people had from the LDN, always a huge concern of mine?Ah, OK, I'll ditch the boswellia. I'm not at all sure this bunch with ginger and MSM have done me a bit of good. Or maybe without them all I'd need even more pain meds, sigh. Maybe after a bit the turmeric will be OK.I did the fish test last night. DH broiled the fish from our friends, caught un upper British COlumbia in clean clean waters, fish cleaned and flash frozen immediately when getting back to the dock. My friend is a nurse and her theory was that if I had known to be very clean and fresh fish, it would be OK. I had a small piece about 3/4 inch by 3/4 inch. It was not OK. I felt terrible all the rest of the evening, burping, gassy tummy, bloating, gut feeling like it might get pretty active, general malaise, headache, what I call my "sleeping sickness" reaction that puts me to sleep no matter what. Sigh. Oh well, maybe next year I can have fish. I'm not very inclined to try it again any time soon! If I had had two bites I probably would have been sick most of today as well. Hi , LDN is not specifically for pain, although users do report pain relief. It modulates the immune system. Clinical trials are ongoing for LDN and Crohn's and MS. It is used for auto-immune diseases (like bowel diseases). If you are interested in hearing about results you can join this Yahoo Group and read about patients results here http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/lowdosenaltrexone/ By the way, boswellia is considered an illegal on the SCD. I found that out recently as I was taking an herbal anti-inflammatory that contained boswellia extract. That's why I went with the turmeric. The active ingredient in turmeric and ginger is curcumin. Hope this helps Carol
Guest guest
What kind of doctor would one see to ask about LDN? My GP never knows about anything I ask him, he only percribes what specialists tell him to and my gastros (I've seen 4 and all have said 'take Humira or stop wasting my time') would pat me on the head politely if I asked them about it. Would a neurologist know anything about it? SCD has my Crohn's under control but I'm looking for a solution to the joint pain that comes with it. Guest guest
Hi Ann, For a doctor who prescribes LDN in your area, email Crystal at angelindisguiseldn@... Be sure and tell her the name of the city you are in. Good luck! For my joint pain I use turmeric with great success. However, some people cannot tolerate it, so go slowly if you try it. The active ingredient is curcumin. Carol CD 21 yrs SCD 4.5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of Shirley Ann What kind of doctor would one see to ask about LDN? Guest guest
Jodi, I didn't think about that, maybe someone would know. I joined that group several months ago but it seems like a free-for-all on there so I've kept mum, they're not like our group ;-) Ann, Living in Italy Undiagnosed Crohn's since 1977 Diagnosed 15 years Sacroiliitis 25 years Rheumatoid arthritis 25 years Pyoderma Gangronosum 2 years SCD since July, 2008 Meds: None To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Friday, August 14, 2009 4:25:22 PMSubject: Re: LDN--OT Hi Ann,My Gastro also pushes Humira on me.I think you should ask for resources in Italy on the LDN Yahoo Group.http://health. groups.yahoo. com/group/ lowdosenaltrexon e/Jodi
Guest guest
Hi Ann, I have been using the spice turmeric which I put into empty vegetable capsules, as you do. I have taken 3/day for inflammation and it always worked for me. But everyone is different. Be advised that turmeric is fat soluble – meaning you have to have some fat (butter, oil, other fat) in you when you take it. I frequently cook with turmeric and it seems to mop up whatever fat is in the skillet with it. These days I only fill and take the capsules if I have inflammation/pain. I don’t understand why this works for some people and not others. But that seems to be the case. Carol CD 21 yrs SCD 4.5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of Shirley Ann Thanks Carol, I'll send her an email. I take curcumin, I make the capsules myself but I haven't noticed any difference, how much do you take? Do you buy a prepared brand? I bought the powder in an herb shop and filled capsules with it and took up to 3 a day with no noticable effect.
