Guest guest
The injections help temporarily and if the doctor gives you a choice, I would go for the latter. So if the doctor gives you no choice, it is legal to take iron if you are very low? You also need lots of vitamin C to help absorb the iron from what they told me. My dad has had to go on iron pills because he changed over to desiccated thyroid and you need a good level of ferritin which are your iron stores in order for the medication to work properly. Having been on the diet since jan his iron levels have not changed but I suspect that is because we are vegetarian and he still is not absorbing food properly. I am just hoping that the scd diet and LDN will protect his stomach from any damage iron will do. The quicker he is off it the better and thats what we are working towards. But once the SCD kicks in, and you eat animal products and your absorption of nutrients normalizes. you will not have to worry about being anemic. Liver is excellent for your anemia but as you get better, it will clear up. I put a good recipe for chopped liver in the recipe section and it is very nice as a salad or an appetizer. The organs of meat are just fine. Many people may warn you that the organs store toxins. Even if they did use hormones, one cannot worry about every little thing at this time. Eat the liver. If you were a woman who was pregnant, it would be a llittle more risky to get the hormones (steroids) to the fetus. Yes, research of the last 20 years has shown that supplementary iron can cause all kinds of other problems since pathological bacteria in gut thrive on additional iron. the best approach to anemia (low hemoglobin) is B12 shots. Once a week if person is very low and then work up to once a month along with oral folic acid - about l mg (or a little less i.e. .4-.8 mg per day with other vitamins. The diet has good iron in it and if you make the liver pate and a little is eaten each day along with other iron containing foods like beef, that should be better than iron supplementation which only works temporarilly if at all. Unless one gets to the basic problem of producing enough and healthy red blood cells, the supplemental iron is not only temporary but has other effects as I noted.
