Guest guest
Hi There, I recently purchased an Excalibur dehydrator from a friend for cheap. This friend was once a raw foodist and loaned me all these raw food books to give me ideas on how to use the dehydrator. But it's confusing. It's too much info for me. It is hard for me to take what I can use from a raw food book for where I'm at in SCD. I'd rather hear from SCD people on how they use their dehydrators and get recipes from you all that I can actually use without having to sift through alot of illegals. Would you mind sharing your recipes for the Excalibur including exactly how you make yogurt with it? Thanks so much! I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Guest guest
I’m with you Betty. I recently got one myself. I have been experimenting with dehydrating grapes, plums, cherry tomatos, zucchini, pineapple, banana and pitted cherries. And strawberry fruit leather. Every fruit turned out well. It is all very leathery and chewy. I did over dry the fruit leather – haven’t mastered that one yet. I did nothing to the fruit except wash & dried it and cut it in half (grapes) or 1/8” slices. I use it to incubate the SCD yogurt (mine has a setting for yogurt on it – 115 degrees I think) Temp. is 5 degrees higher than food temp. I think. Take out all the trays and place the yogurt container(s) on the floor of the dehydrator and replace door cover. If it has a timer, set it for 24 hours/make a note of when yogurt is ready. Be forewarned to drink water when eating dried fruit. If you eat a lot of dried fruit and get a stomach ache, drink a glass of water and you will feel better (the voice of experience). Best not to overeat (the voice of experience again)as dried fruit is considered advanced. I would love to know how to make onion and garlic powder. I have not yet tried to dry onions or garlic. Any suggestions appreciated.
