Guest guest
Is coconut cream in a can? If so, why is it legal when canned coconut milk without guar gum isn't? These rules are so confusing some times! Thanks, Liz > > That recipe sounds great, but it calls for Coco , which I think is really liquidy. Anyone have a sense how Tropical Traditions' coconut cream (which is very thick) would be substituted? > > Thanks! > > Ellen > 10 y/o dd scd since 5/06 for Crohn's and doing great >

Guest guest
Hmm, interesting. The guar gum in most coconut milk is in there as an emulsifier. The TJ's " Lite " coconut milk isn't labeled as having guar gum, but it sure is smooth and looks emulsified. I have several cans of coconut milk that I bought in Canada that states " no sugar or additives " on the label and it definitely is NOT emulsified - very lumpy and separated. I need to find a number for the company and call to find out for sure. We're mostly dairy free and I have used coconut milk for years in things like cream soup and asian recipes. I miss it! Guest guest
Marilyn, Yeah, I do understand about undeclared ingredients. Believe me, I've been gluten free, soy free and dairy free for years and I know how to make my own stuff. Seriously, I would be happy if I could just buy canned tomato products, canned pumpkin and canned coconut milk. I don't think I really would need much else. Those 3 things would make my life MUCH easier, so there's always wishful thinking, right? Thanks! Liz > Liz, > > The coconut cream from Tropical Traditions is in > a jar. Guest guest
Marilyn, This is the whole point.. People do use convenience items. There is no sense denying this. For me canned coconut milk is a stretch. I do not see how a product like this could be legal. But we have seen reports of things that Elaine originally approved well that those formulations have changed. People buy canned whole tomatoes, larabars, juices and some other staple items.. It's just a fact. That in now way means SCD has to endorse it but the original approved list needs updating! Jodi

Guest guest
Hi Liz, The coconut cream I'm referring to is this: http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/coconut_cream_concentrate.htm Only ingredient is concentrated coconut. It's legal and delicious, but advanced b/c coconut is fibrous. Ellen 12 y/o dd scd since 5/06 med-free for one year > Is coconut cream in a can?
