But be careful! Even on LDN, cheating, or playing the edges of the diet too much can lead to a setback. Mara

Guest guest
-I agree- the reason is that a small bite of something illegal is a feast for bad bacteria. It's not like a weight loss diet where you can " cheat " once in a while and then get back on track. On SCD, cheating is just not worth the consequences. SCD is for the long run. From BTVC, I infer that one can try adding illegals, a bit at a time, after 2 years, but some stay completely on SCD longer. It's worth the wait. (That Starbucks is gonna taste mighty good after 2 years of waiting LOL). However, even after 2 years some foods may cause difficulties. Stocker experimented with adding illegals after 2 years. I wonder how that's going? I'll do better. I don't think you can ever trust a salad dressing in a restaurant, not unless they bring you the actual bottles of olive oil and vinegar and you pour them on yourselves. I always take my own dressing and generally my slice of chicken, too, because I don't trust that either! Since I'm not sure about the salad bar either I guess that's why I haven't actually eaten out for years! But when I did, I just took a small bottle of salad dressing in my purse, well wrapped in a plastic bag in case of leakage.
Guest guest
A wedge of lemon or lime plus some olive oil and salt make a nice salad dressing. Those items are generally available in restaurants. Carol CD 21 yrs SCD 5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of My-Stitches >Had a salad in a restaurant with oil and vinegar. Of course, it has carbohydrates because grapes do -- it's made with grape must, which is a pressing of the whole grapes, including seeds and skins (the skins give grapes most of their flavor, and seeds are phenomenally good for you, very high in antioxidants). Maybe I'm not supposed to be saying this, but I use balsamic vinegar frequently -- the stuff without added sugar, and organic, so the grapes haven't been sprayed with pesticides. I'm not sure why that should be "illegal." (I, at least, have never reacted badly to it.) n

Guest guest
A couple of years ago, I saw some balsamic vinegar at Sonoma at the mall. It was very, very expensive and I thought SCD legal from the label and talking to staff. I think it's in the magazine also. You may want to check online. If you get the VERY expensive stuff, which has no sugar added, and you have confirmed this with a physical letter, balsamic vinegar can be legal. It's just that so much of what is marketed as " balsamic vinegar " isn't really what they claim. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
