Guest guest
Zelnorm is/was SCD legal; it is a prescription drug that increases digestive motility, works to get the entire intestinal tract back into sync. Unfortunately the FDA pulled it from the market, as less than 1% of the trial group developed heart problems. It is a drug that is used elsewhere in the world, although I think Canada also pulled it when the US FDA did. My gastroenterologist put me on a very low dose to begin with, and I pushed it even lower, which is normal for me. Amitiza is the drug many doctors use as an alternative to Zelnorm. I tried it but developed a severe side-effect (debilitating joint pain) so had to stop; wasn't as effective as Zelnorm for me anyway. So, I just do without. It has taken some trial and error -- and time on SCD -- to get my digestive motility functioning reasonably smoothly. I still have problems, given my neurological deterioration, so keep water enemas on hand for the really severe episodes of constipation. Most of the time, though, the combination of Miralax plus magnesium helps. I am accustomed to constipation discomfort (pain) and bloating, though. Kim M. SCD 5+ years >>>>>>>>> Is Zelnorm SCD legal?
