Hi Micky, I had an open DS on Feb. 12, 2001. I went through the same thing pre-op. My eating was out of control. I stopped dieting for the first time in 5 years!

I felt strangely free but, I did that for 4 months waiting for surgery.

Gained 40 lbs! Not a good thing! I'm glad you don't have very long to wait. Your surgery is around the corner. Best wishes for a safe switch and painless recovery,

Resa

Open DS

You sound like me. I moved here to NC from Ca. 6 months ago. I stopped dieting because the move was so stressful and I was looking into the surgery. Gained 40 lbs! LOL! How are you doing now? What is your diet like so far?

Micky, Hi. I am happy to report that since my DS on 2-12-2001, I have lost 40 lbs! LOL. So I kinda feel cheated! If I only hadn't gained that 40 lbs. waiting for surgery... I have been very lucky with my post-op recovery/eating. I have had no problems. I am eating whatever I like -- protein first. Two or three times I did have that 1 more bite and gave most of my meal to the porcelain God! Other wise I am eating just fine. Including something sweet almost every day. On the day of surgery I weighed in @ 270 lbs -- I am 5'2.

As of last Tuesday I a was 230. I'd like to lose 110 more. Resa

Micky, What really counts is your surgery is right around the corner! Soon enough your surgery will assist you in losing the weight and keeping it off and helping you to feel satisfied after meals. That's how I'm looking at things now. Your absolutely right, just make the best of it. Your being switched on the 12th right? Who is your surgeon?

I choose open mainly because my dr. only does RNY lap and since this is such a complicated surgery I'd prefer he see everything he's doing so there's less chance of problems.

My surgery is May 15th with Dr. of Winston-Salem, NC. He's a great doctor. Very patient and very concerned about his patients.
