I ended up doing the raw egg smoothie today for breakfast but I am worrying about it a bit...silly, really. I let him eat batters and they all have raw eggs! It would end this problem. Not that I have time to cook anything else, but since when does that matter?? Guest guest
Did you find any winners in your "one-pot meal" quest? The apples, cinnamon, and chicken in a crock pot idea was good. Everything else I pretty much can't have yet =( I'm gonna try the zuke noodles and some chicken though, and see if that's good. Guest guest
Hi Chrissy, I really sympathize with your problem here. Of course you have to work with what your son is willing to eat as well as what he should eat. Is there any possibility he can take a few minute between periods at school for a morning snack? I say this because of my own problems. I absolutely cannot eat anything but fruit until 11AM. Not unless I want to provoke gut troubles, wide-spread pain and a bad headache. It isn't at all good for my hypoglycemia and it's worse if I have to go somewhere, as you can imagine, as it would be the same as your son's situation. Anyhow, if you can't find something he will eat (even if it means disguising it in the smoothie) would there be any way he could have a snack later to last until lunch? > Hey everybody, > I am trying to find/recall some posts some time back about eggs in smoothies? Guest guest
Chrissy, I'm scared to death to make the yoghurt so far, too. I've been having troubles with dairy for too long. In the case of your son I think it's wise to be cautious. Could you wait for a vacation period to try the yoghurt if you feel you must? If you run out of anything else to do to buck up the staying power of those breakfast smoothies, could he tolerate some coconut oil in them? That would also keep him from getting hungry so quickly. I often do better with more coconut or olive oil rather than adding more protein, which is real touchy for me.

Guest guest
Hi Chrissy, I have a 6-year-old son who will not eat eggs. I sneak a raw pasture egg from our local farmers' market into his smoothie every morning. Here's the recipe: juice of 1 orange half a ripe banana two cubes of fresh pineapple 1 raw egg some water to dilute I blend it all in a deep cup with my hand blender. He guzzles it up with a straw. It's really delicious and you can't tell that there's an egg in it at all. HTH, > > Hey everybody, > I am trying to find/recall some posts some time back about eggs in smoothies? Guest guest
At 09:32 AM 9/17/2009, you wrote: You are the hard boiled egg whisperer, Marilyn. I would NEVER think that would work or taste...well, not disgusting. Eggs in a smoothie is an odd idea to begin with, IMO. Welcome to the adventure of SCD, right?? Well, I'm working on something of a smoothie adventure myself just now. And had one last year after my cancer surgery. In most cases, if you balance the veggies and the seasonings right, the egg or eggs is merely a thickening and enriching agent, and adds very little in the way of taste. As you may be aware from other postings, my 87 year old Mom has dementia and congestive heart failure. She is not SCD. She's decided chewing is too much work. So, I'm trying to come up with pureed foods that we can feed her, but which won't be dripping all over the place. So far, I have done: chicken, chicken broth, boiled egg, and peeled steamed zucchini, with homemade poultry seasoning. tomato sauce (I use juice for me), steamed zucchini, basil, and boiled egg. tomato sauce, steamed zucchini, and bison, with a variety of seasonings -- everything from Mexican to Italian. As my Mom does do cheese, I made a " taco mix " for her of the bison, Mexican seasonings, shredded cheddar, some sour cream (well, dripped half & half yogurt, since it was what I had handy) and a couple dollops of guacamole and blended away. I had some additional guacamole and " sour cream handy, and she alternated bites of that and bites of the other two. grilled fish filets, chicken broth, assorted steamed vegetables, and homemade blackened fish seasoning, along with a drizzle of olive oil and coconut oil chicken, poultry seasoning, onion, garlic, cooked butternut squash, chicken broth. This one was particularly well-received. I thought I had three servings there, and she ate it in two. Not that Dad or I minded. grilled pork chop, pork drippings, a leaf of romaine lettuce and a dollop of homemade Caesar salad dressing I'm working on some other combinations, but these have been received favorably. Try mixing and matching the proteins and vegetables which are tolerated with various seasonings. I mention broth as a liquid, but you can use a little water if you haven't got broth. You can also toss in a cap of E-lyte to balance the electrolytes if desired. These are what I call savory smoothies. I ate a bunch of them after my cancer surgery because I wanted readily absorbed nutrition. I just toss ingredients into my mini-Cuisinart (or if making a bunch, into my Vita-mix) and grind first, then blend fine. The big Cuisinart does not puree things as finely as the mini or the Vita-mix. Savory smoothies are all about using your imagination on what foods you tolerate (or your kids tolerate) and then blending away. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
